I didn't watch the west wing when it was first on tv. Been watching episodes back to back off Netflix lately though. Towards the end they bring in Alan Alda to play a moderate republican senator who decides to run for president. In one scene he's talking to martin sheen, who asks him about his religious beliefs. Alda explains about how his wife once bought him a beautiful king James bible. He says the further into the bible he read, the less religious he became. I believe Christopher Hitchens made much the same comment.

Didn't quite work right, but if you click on it, you get to the youtube search page I used to find the clip. Go down about 8 clips to the in God we trust clip where Sheen and Alda are eating ice cream. Not badfor my ffirst try.
