QuoteIt all unfolded around 9 a.m. on Missouri 19 near the town of Center. Katie Lentz, 19, had gotten into an accident and was pinned between the steering wheel and the seat, reports area news outlet KHQA. A rescue crew arrived at the scene and worked to get Lentz out of the mangled car for 45 minutes, but they were unable to free her.

As time passed, Lentz's condition worsened. Eventually she asked if someone would pray out loud. That is when a gray-haired priest, dressed in all black with a clerical collar and carrying anointing oil, appeared and prayed over the girl.

Shortly after, the rescue workers were able to free Lentz and send her to the hospital. When they turned to thank the priest, he was gone. He isn't in any of the dozens of photos taken from the accident, and no one has been able to identify him.

"I think it's a miracle," New London Fire Chief Raymond Reed, one of the rescuers at the scene of the accident, told KHQA. "I would say whether it was an angel that was sent to us in the form of a priest or a priest that became our angel, I don't know. Either way, I'm good with it."

The teen's mother, Carla Churchill Lentz, feels the same.

She told USA Today that emergency workers said there is no way her daughter should have lived through the crash. She believes the man may have been "an angel dressed in priest's attire because the Bible tells us there are angels among us."

Father James Martin, a Jesuit priest and author of My Life with the Saints, has a different theory.

"Most likely the priest will be identified, and people will be able to thank him," he told The Huffington Post in an emailed message Thursday. "If he's not found, that may mean he wants to remain anonymous. Could it have been an angel? There are similar 'angelic' stories in the lives of the saints, when a figure inexplicably appears and cannot be located afterwards. There are angels, of course, but we tend to ascribe to angels anonymous acts that we find incredibly loving -- when in fact human beings do incredibly loving things in hidden ways every day."

On her Facebook page, Carla Churchill Lentz revealed her daughter has undergone surgery for sustained injuries, including a broken femur, broken ribs, a lacerated liver, a ruptured spleen and a bruised lung. She thanked everyone for their support and asked them to "pray out loud."

So, miracle priest "saves" girl but can't keep her from sustaining multiple serious injuries. And the rescue crew got her out, not the priest. Its a miracle! Praise Jeebus!

That's all well and good, but I think the person we should really be thinking here is the 1980's Japanese metal band Loudness, because if it weren't for them there would be no such thing as ninja rockstars. And after all, isn't that what's really important?

On an even more positive note, I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

Yea. Seems like an attempt to make people think Catholicism is true. I'd hate to go all conspiracy theory on this, but, "there were no cars or other people around" because the roadway was blocked for "a quarter of a mile"

It's possible that they realized that no one would be able to dispute it because no citizens were around. And the girl was so injured that they can just say, "well you don't remember that part then" to her.

Then again I have as little evidence of my story as they do of the angel priest.

Raynot

The angel priest probably thought it was a boy trapped in the wreck, and disappeared when he found out it was a girl.

I posted on one site about that story:

One? Just one? A few years ago thousands of Americans died horribly while millions of prayers spewed into the heavens and nothing. But now the best he can do is save one along the side of a road? Poor ole god, down to only being able to save one at a time and producing lousy images of the virgin mary on a grilled cheese....awesome god there.
A humans desire to live is exceeded only by their willingness to die for another. Even god cannot equal this magnificent sacrifice. No god has the right to judge them.-first tenant of the Panotheust

I cringe when I read stories like that. Dumbasses always attribute prayer as the thing that worked. Maybe the anointing oil helped her slip out. Maybe the work crew needed a break to regain their strength so when they began again they had enough strength to finally free her. There was no angel, no miracle. This just pisses me off.
I really hate local news coverage because they emphasize so bullshit religious crap. They don't investigate crap. "Oh the candle light vigil held save the child that was about to die" BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

SGOS

Man!  That story has bullshit written all over it.

ApostateLois

In her delirium,  she imagined the priest; or it was just some guy who wishes to remain anonymous; or it never happened at all. If I believed for a moment that angels really did help people, I would have to ask why they never bothered helping the thousands of people who died in the destruction of the Twin Towers--or why they couldn't stop the planes from hitting in the first  place. People were jumping out of windows to their deaths to avoid the flames, and not once did any angel fly down to save them before they hit the ground. And how about the millions and millions of people who pray for miracles every day, who beg God for mercy or help or relief from their misery, only to be met with a complete lack of angelic assistance? People who believe in the nonsense of angels have a lot of explaining to do.

Priest gets stuck in traffic jam behind accident.  Finally gets out of car and walks to scene to see if anyone needs a priest.  Prays for girl.  Rescue team finally gets her out.

If he had flown to the scene and teleported her to the hospital it would have been a miracle, but all I see is natural events.

Why oh why do people give any credence to such an outrageous story? Oh sure a girl is about to die because of a car crash and an angel in the form of a priest saves her with a prayer. Unbelievable. Why did the angel have to take a human form. In the bible angels never took human form. Why did the angel have to pray. According to the bible angels had power enough to do most anything.
I wonder if this angel actually had genitles. Angels had no need for sex organs and didn't have any.
What language did the angel speak. according to the bible angel language was unintelligable to humans unless they evoke intervention. Why did an angel have to pray. It's biblically backasswards to the way things are suppose to happen. You pray and an angel appears, not the other way 'round. Was the angel wearing clothes? If so why? Angels were always naked.

Solitary

Mass hysteria under trying conditions anyone? I wonder what the story would have been if an atheist was there and never saw what they say they did---"He didn't see because he has no faith. Jesus atheist are dumb."
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

One time my car wouldn't start and I couldn't figure out why. When I took it to the mechanic he said, "always start with the most simple explanation first, you're going to change the alternator and all it needs is a new battery."

So maybe we should just start with the most simple thing first..... maybe they are just idiots.

I didn't pray outloud for her and she was saved! PROOF that not praying saves lives!

By the way shoezie.. go ahead and laugh. The priest won't mind.
All hail my new signature!
