G'day,
I'm not sure if I'm shopping around for a new forum after leaving my old online home at a forum I won't name or whether I'll just kinda lick my wounds here for a while and then return to the old forum.

The old forum appeared to me to have a bit too much theocratic influence on the moderation team so this one may suit me better.

I'm spiritual but not religious but I agree with atheists that there is no sound reason for believing in God, however I still believe in a sort of God for irrational reasons.

I'm more one of the rabble than a refined educated gent, but I vote for the Australian Labor party, and am generally a left leaning spiritually liberal (not to be confused with the political party known as the Liberals) type of guy.

I also think atheists get way too much flak for pointing out the bleeding obvious - that there is no reliable evidence for God.

Anyway looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi TDofA!
What is the definition of "sort of God"?
Welcome to the forum, I hope you can find here whatever it is you're looking for.
At least you seem to be sufficiently literate! Many who come here are sadly lacking in that department.

Well my God largely reflects a post-hoc rationalised version of my indoctrination minus a lot of stuff I dumped because it looked a little too scientifically bogus even for an irrational type like myself, so it's going to sound weird but here goes;

In my beliefs all that is is divided into the physical realm and the spirit realm. God in my beliefs doesn't/has never intervened in the physical realm because it is a lazy God that doesn't immediately get around to being benevolent, but I would describe it as ultimately benevolent in the sense that it eventually gets round to being benevolent by providing a living spirit to all who desire it for as long as they desire it after the death of our physical body.

Apart from doing that it is too lazy to do anything else.

So I would define my God as Omnipotent, All-knowing and lazy but ultimately benevolent.

(Hope that wasn't too much useless background info for you)

Greetings and welcome. It's funny that you'd describe your god as "lazy." I can see how that would rile people up. lol

It sounds like your god is just a vehicle for cheating death, though. I understand death can be scary, but eternal life is a much scarier concept.

Maybe, but there is no reason an afterlife need be eternal. It could just go on till one gets bored of it, or maybe there is none

That's an interesting dichotomy of choices for a large country.

But by chance I am from Sydney :)

I seem to recall Jackie Chan climbing on the Sidney Opera House in one of his movies.

Reminds me of the show 'the good place'.
Haven't watched it fully, but i know how it ends.
Good show, handeling philosofical questions with a dollop of humor.

I've heard about this show, but regrettably it's not on Netflix that I'm aware of
