It took way too long for people to realize that Elon was not a quirky genius, but just a weirdo moron. The guy pays people to play video games for him, so he can log in and pretend he earned everything he has. He pays people smarter than him to do the work, then takes all the credit. I admit, I fell for his act.  Conservatives, much less nazis, tend to not present a progressive vision for the future - one with Mars colonization, electric cars, etc.  It seems obvious now that that stuff was just a way to grab as much government funding as possible while basking in undeserved adulation.  He certainly proved a lot of suspicions correct over the past couple of years, both about him personally and about the nature of the billionaire class.
