^ It gets even stranger with Musk's bizarre rant against the Lutheran Church

Catholics, too:

QuoteVice President JD Vance, a Catholic, recently accused U.S. Catholic bishops of "resettling illegal immigrants" — a claim made without evidence — in an interview with CBS, as well as accusing prelates who defend the work of only being concerned with their "bottom line."
Didn't take 'em long to go after Christians.  And once again, I have to come to religious peoples' defense, despite being antireligious myself.  I'm sure they'd do the same for me.  Definitely.  Probably.  Maybe.

Obviously, religious groups' humanitarian work is their own business so long as it doesn't violate the law or hurts people.  And from the looks of things, these religious groups seem to genuinely be trying to help the needy and the stranger in a strange land, hence why they're at odds with Musk/Trump.

QuoteWithout citing evidence, Flynn accused the groups — who have longstanding funding agreements with the government — of "money laundering," a federal crime. He also insisted the numbers amounted to "billions" of American taxpayer dollars, a claim not supported by the attached spreadsheet.
I actually would argue that religious groups often do operate a racket of some sort.  But the crypto pump-n-dump guy talking about money laundering is rich.  He's not exactly clean when it comes to financial crimes (or crime in general), either.

And whether it's Musk or Trump, under the thin veneer of religiosity is someone who cynically manipulates religious people by posing as one ("cultural" or otherwise), whose politics have a decidedly more German than jewish inspiration, and to put it bluntly, someone who operates more like the sin of wrath or greed made manifest than a truly pious man.  Genuinely religious people ought to be disgusted by them.  Christians and atheists may have our differences, but we can all agree to boot out authoritarian conmen.

I get that the world is utterly fucked up by now, and it seems like things which made sense in the past, simply aren't applicable to today's depraved Western societies.

But logic would dictate, if I am remembering at least Aristotle correctly, that:

1. Trump is a convicted felon.
2. Convicted felons should be in jail.
3. Therefore, Trump should be in jail.

Then why this isn't the case? How can a person who should in jail be elected president of the United States?

If it were any other American "citizen", surely he/she/they would spend at least half a decade behind bars for such crimes, now wouldn't they?

What's the excuse from these lawyers/Supreme Court/conservatives pundits/whatnot?

Whatever *it* is, I am sure it doesn't have a solid legal basis and probably doesn't even make sense. So, special pleading at its finest.

Of course, I can be wrong at the end of the day...but am I?!?!?!?!?

🤦

I don't think you're wrong, but I don't understand it either.

I suspect T.rump has dirt on a lot of people. Calling him a potential blackmailer does tend to give real blackmailers a bad name, but that can't be helped.

No. Trump and other rich asshole have a way of avoid the consequences of their actions, even after due process. But there is a solution.

Well, instead of deporting migrants, they're going to start today sending them to Gitmo. I'm sure that will make MAGA ecstatic.

T.rump won't survive this term. Judged mentally incompetent before end of term. "You read it here first."

But there is emerging resistance:  1000 gather around US Treasury building to protest Elon "German salute" Musk's illegal seizure of sensitive taxpayer data for who knows what purpose.

I was hoping I would be able to buy a couple hundred feet of ocean frontage in Gaza so I could have a place to go in the winter, but officials at the White House are now saying Trump might be changing his mind on annexing Palestine.

Nativism and taking someone else's land.  Two great tastes that go great together!
