Quote from: Blackleaf on November 29, 2024, 12:03:48 PMWe're long overdue for a recession. Biden managed to delay it, but Trump's tariffs alone will push us right over the edge. Shockingly, it turns out that foreign countries don't pay for the tarrifs. We do. Who knew?

Oh yeah, and countries tend to place retaliatory tarrifs themselves, which means fewer people buying American goods internationally. So not only will we be paying more for what we import, but we'll also be making less money on things we sell. Oh boy! That sounds like the perfect way to jumpstart our economy!

Well, look on the bright side. After four years, it'll be easy for whoever is next to make it better.

No, it won't. Especially if Trump gets to assign ANOTHER Supreme Court justice. The mess Trump leaves behind will take DECADES to recover from, and that's just to break even. Plus, there's no guarantee that the election will even mean anything in four years. If Trump is as power hungry as I believe he is, Project 2025 will ensure that he and his eventual successors have unchecked power. Basically, like Russia, we'll have an election to provide the illusion of choice, but the outcome will be set in stone from the start. If I'm right, America is fucked, and there's no recovering from it.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience.

His current three judges have done a really good job; DoE vs. Brown (economy), 303 Creative LLC vs. Elenis (1st amendment),  Merrill v. Milligan (protection against racial discrimination in drawing voting districts) are just a few examples across a wide range of issues where they have simply put made the right call.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Proposed 100% tariff on BRICs (Russia and friends) countries if they decide to start their own currency to compete with the US dollar.

Beautiful.

I'm sure you have nothing but nice things to say about Trump's cabinet picks too.

Beautiful.

Lots of IFs here.  IF it's more than words, IF he successfully implements it, IF everything works out as well as you think (long list of things here that haven't exactly gone according to plan - "who knew healthcare could be so complicated?!") THEN and only then will I agree to you.

Honestly, with this guy and the record he has, prematurely celebrating isn't exactly a good idea.

For the most part, yeah; not big on Oz and wish he would have picked Sid Miller for Ag., but otherwise my biggest complaint is I think he may be a little too focused on making sure he gets "first woman, first PoC, first LGBT+" in different cabinet positions just as a middle finger to the Democrats.

His records on tariffs and leveraging our economic power against China and Russia are quite good, it's something he was criticized for in his first term.

"If" he becomes a dictator, "if" he throws out the Constitution, "if" he persecutes minorities... I'll hedge my bets on this if first.

He actually delivered on the Muslim ban and pulling out of the Paris climate accord, not on improving on Obamacare.  His failures from the border wall that Mexico would allegedly pay for to "draining the swamp" to the covid fiasco are not difficult to recall.  "Doomscrolling" was a thing under this regime.  His conduct was so bad that he eventually got impeached twice over it and found guilty of 34 felonies.

Of course, some people say it was great and can't wait for seconds, but you can't change facts with your opinions.  You can't say something is fine when it's not - the current Cabinet picks come readily to mind - and expect to be taken seriously, much less believed.

Now that Biden has pardoned his son, I don't think any of us need to worry about either party pretending to care about ethics in politics anymore. These next few years are gonna be wild.

In order to support the incoming administration, I will be leaving my body to pseudoscience. They may not know what to do with it (bury it in Central Park?) but it does show my support.

I suppose it was Biden's parting shot. But I think it's the wrong message to Americans. Trump will capitalize on this when he pardons all those who tried to subvert the 2020 election.
