Quote from: Susan on October 28, 2024, 09:22:11 PMThis time around, even if there is enthusiasm, it seems to me to be less than the last time.
About that...according to to early voting polls, the Dems have a significant lead in terms of voter enthusiasm.

Quote from: GallupSeventy percent of registered voters say they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting, similar to the 71% measured in August but higher than the 56% in March. The increase this summer was largely a result of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents expressing heightened enthusiasm after Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket, surging from 57% to 79% "more enthusiastic."

Now, Democrats maintain elevated election enthusiasm, at 77%, compared with 67% among Republicans.

Quote from: NewsweekBoth numbers are the highest they've been since the President Barack Obama years, where the Democrat swept in on a 76 percent enthusiasm compared to 61 percent among Republicans, or when he won despite a surge in enthusiasm for Mitt Romney with 73 percent compared to 61 percent for the Democrats.

The 2016 election had a very narrow difference, with only 53 percent of Republicans enthusiastic compared to 50 percent for Democrats.

Granted, turnout, not enthusiasm, is the true gane-ender.  And so far, turnout has been very high.

In Springfield they're eating the hot dogs! They're eating the catfish! They're eating the goose livers! They're eating the duck a l'orange! 😱

In 1974 a story by William Jon Watkins was published, called The People's Choice, about an advertising executive who answers the question: "Given unlimited funds, could you make a short fat, ugly woman president of the United States?"

A story that I think about these days when I see what the public relations people have done with, and for, Donald Trump.

By the way, the answer was a resounding "Yes!"

I read an interesting article this morning on the NPR website about a couple of guys who are trying to make porn viewers aware of the possibility of one of their favorite pastimes getting rubbed out (no pun intended, well maybe it was) if Trump is elected.  The message is simple:  "Trump and Vance's Project 2025 will BAN PORN -- Enjoy while you can".

https://www.npr.org/2024/11/01/nx-s1-5168877/2024-election-pac-trump-porn-sites

The threat of porn elimination is no shit, no exageration.  Here is the actual verbiage on page 5 of the Project 2025 document:
QuotePornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should
be imprisoned. Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed
as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that
facilitate its spread should be shuttered.

Since the porn audience is predominately male, I hope this will make at least some of them realize that they will suffer a tremendous loss to what they regard as a personal freedom if Trump is elected.

To further drive home the point of impact, here is a clip from an episode of South Park where an internet outage has created a dire situation for the men of South Park.

I expect that the ban on porn is likely aimed at sex-education classes and associated materials.

A great read is "THE RAPE OF THE APE", By Allan Sherman.

APE:  American Puritan Ethic.

Haven't read this book in a long time since I checked it out from the library.  Just bought a copy for me and my son and daughter.  The book is a damned hoot.  Can't wait to read it again.

Oh, I'm also hoping that America comes to its senses, and massively and early decides on election night Donald Trump cannot be anywhere near the presidency of the United States again.

Bear in mind that Donald Trump never won the popular vote.  If the USA held elections like most other democracies, Trump would've never been in office.

Also, if several layers of people we trust hadn't betrayed that trust, Trump would never have gotten traction in the first place.  Without deep pockets and reality tv show producers and corrupt judges and disinformation amplifiers backing him, he's just a weird guy.

Well, all 5 of the young men and women in the extended fam reported in and voted blue down right down the line. We are so happy to hear that. I kidded the oldest, asking if his white-man ass feels emasculated by voting for a black women, LOL. He said he went on her website and actually liked what she stands for. Yey!

Same.  Even a couple Republicans.  The governor race in NC has gotten a tad one-sided.

While I don't deny that some people vote in an...*tries to think of a nice way to put it*....erratic fashion, my experience is more with straight-ticket people, especially in recent years.  Cause it doesn't make much sense to vote in people who oppose each other to the core.

With the Democrat the clear favorite for Governor, I wonder how many people will realistically vote Democrat for Governor and Trump for President, especially given that the Republican has gotten Trump's blessing (inadvertently confirming the nazi allegations).  I suppose it's happened before - in 2020, Trump won NC with less than a 2% margin but the Governor went to the Democrat by 4.5% of the vote.  We'll see.

I've never understood why 10 counts of obstruction of justice outlined in the Mueller report were allowed to wither on the vine.

I must admit that I'm getting just a bit antsy about this farce of an election. I'm sure Harris will win the popular vote with no problem, but the Republicans are cooking up a bunch of shenanigans. But at least the Democrats know something of what they will attempt, so maybe they can prevent a travesty of justice from occurring. But they don't know how to play hardball.

Can anyone tell me what the hell "nuclear warming" is? Trump says we don't have to worry about global warming, we have to worry about "nuclear warming," but I don't know what that is. 🤔

Dark Lightning

WAG- he means "nuclear winter", but he's demented, so maybe something else.

Luther Martini

Whether trump meant winter or warming, the greatest threat to us all would be if the codes are in his slimy hands.

A few of you might remember this ad from the LBJ campaign toward the end of the 1964 Presidential campaign.
