Wasn't Trump lobbying the committee for the Nobel Peace Prize at one time? Where in Hell was his head at?

A dictator always needs diversions.

I suspect the damage Trump has done, and is still doing, will reach beyond my lifetime.

The damage will be immeasurable. He is a symptom of irrationality. This damage is a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused by all the religions that poison human cognition. Earth's population is held hostage (Stockholm Syndrome) by celestial imaginary dictators.

Not to mention, our "liberal" party has a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. If we get a fair election and the democrats win, they'll probably move so slowly that the Republicans get a chance to dig us a deeper hole. They had four years to lock up Trump for attempting to overturn the election with violence. FOUR YEARS! He should have been in prison long before last year's election.

It's fertile ground for fascism. American whites and white males in particular, have had to adapt to different roles that their fathers and grandfathers had. They are losing their sometimes non-earned, automatic high status in society. Running back to religion, conservatism, racism, misogyny and nationalism is their struggle to keep power. To be great again.

Mussolini/Hitler seized on similar moments. History may not repeat, but it rhymes.

It seems to me that the liberal party's election message is, "We are not as bad as the Republicans." To have our hearts and minds will require more. In the next presidential election and even the next off year election, I expect them to talk a lot about liberal issues, but from past experience, I don't expect them to actually do much about it. Although at this point, they are in a position to do a lot. I think they will overturn some of the mess, but won't go the extra mile.

It seems like they need the Republican party to have something to fight against, which is a big issue for sure, but how much beyond that will they fight for? There has been a lot of talk about reinventing the Democratic Party, but can they really see what they are doing wrong? Let's face it, Any party that loses to Trump has got to be making a lot of mistakes, most of which they can't probably can't or won't see.

Yeah, the Democratic party needs the Republicans the way Superman needs Lex Luthor. Without the super villain, Superman is rather superfluous.

The Democrats need someone with some serious youthful charisma who can project they even care about the plight of so many delusional Trump voters and yet still satisfy moderate liberals. We need an action hero or something

I mean, the progressives seem to be particularly adept in that area.  Mamdani readily comes to mind - huge turnout, high voter registration, high early voting.  All thanks to a decent amount of charisma but also a tireless hammering on key issues voters care about - the affordability crisis - and with substantive policy plans on offer.  And because of that, he got about 75% of voters under 30.   Partisan races in this country are often perilously close, requiring hours or days to figure out who squeaked past who - but his race was called in less than an hour.  That tells you something - get the youth vote and get a solid win.

Really, all the Democrats have to do is nurture and field progressives relentlessly instead of fighting them.  This is no-brainer stuff.

Bragging about "acing" a cognitive test...

Spoiler alert: he's losing what's left of his marbles and his health has further deteriorated (the grandiose "100% amazing, no one's ever seen anything like that" stuff ALWAYS papers over serious problems)

And I agree, the US should not be run by stupid/incompetent people.  So people who actually care about their country should do what they can to help steer it back in a sensible direction.

I seriously doubt that Trump wrote that, because I doubt that he's ever seen the word "mandatorily."

One of the worst parts of the Trump era is the inescapable realization of just how many truly awful people walk among us.
