Federal judge blocks Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship

QuoteThe order "conflicts with the plain language of the 14th Amendment, contradicts 125-year old binding Supreme Court precedent and runs counter to our nation's 250-year history of citizenship by birth," Boardman said during a hearing on Wednesday.

"No court in the country has ever endorsed the president's interpretation," she said. "This court will not be the first."

Beyond the headlines: Mass deportation news appears more recent than they were to create misleading impressions

QuoteThe lawyer noticed a strange pattern. In almost every state, at least one press release from Ice's website appeared in Google's top results. Nebraska, for example, surfaced links for two press releases. One said "ICE executes federal search warrants in Nebraska", the other said "ICE fugitive operations team arrests 44 absconders". Both displayed their dates of publication as 24 January 2025 on Google search. But when the lawyer clicked through to the report, the actual dates of publication were August 2018 and June 2008, respectively.

"I've now done it in all 50 states ... and I've done it in multiple cities. And it's the same thing," the lawyer said. "They all had the last update of 1/24/2025 and they were all popping up at the front of the algorithm."

Getting accurate recent ICE figures has been...tricky

QuoteICE also has not explained what's happening to the migrants who are arrested. NBC News reported this week that some migrants arrested by ICE under the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign have already been released in the United States, on a program that monitors them.

Kocher said questions about the data are especially important to ask because the administration has a "political incentive right now to put numbers out, to try to show that they're doing something."

"That incentive may mean that they put something out that's not true, rather than taking the time to get it right," Kocher said.

Getting accurate recent ICE figures has been...tricky

So if I'm understanding correctly, some of the mass deportations we're hearing about are actually years or decades apart, and ICE isn't booting out nearly as many people as they're making it look like right now.

The question I want answered now is, to what purpose? Scare immigrants? Look more impressive to Trump and his base? Some combination thereof?

It's definitely to make Trump seem more "productive" than he's actually being.

A couple of weeks ago some sanctuary cities like Chicago, were going to get invaded by large Customs enforcement patrols that were going to do some serious house cleaning, but since then, I haven't read anything about it. Why make public that it was going to happen (they even gave the date it was to begin) and then report no results?

Maybe it's harder to do than just walk in and start knocking heads. Maybe there aren't as many illegal aliens as we thought? Actually, I think there are a lot, so they shouldn't be that hard to find. But why tell them you're coming?

Surely, not my face

QuoteBut "Paula" echoed a string of callers who told Amo they are uncomfortable with the free rein President Donald Trump has given unelected, non-Cabinet member "tech billionaire" Elon Musk to root around in government records.

"I think there is a lot of distrust ... as to what power he has," she said.

QuoteAmo also used the Town Hall as a platform to voice what Democrats and others have been saying: That "rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the government" was the concept voters were sold and isn't a bad thing, but the "wholesale closing" of federal agencies and giving "people barely out of college" access to the sensitive data of millions of Americans "wasn't part of the pitch."
Telling one thing and doing another?  How unexpected!

Trump signed an executive order to settle the architects of apartheid from South Africa here in AmeriKKKa. Fancy that.

So conveniently after President Musk advocated on Twitter for an influx of specifically white South Africans to escape "persecution" in South Africa.

The supporters of this sort of thing must spin their heads trying to square mass deportations with this and pardoning insurrectionists.  This is in line only with a very specific ideology and Musk is very fond of its salute.

Neo-nazis sure have been a lot more aggressive lately.  Fortunately, the ones who aren't draped in wealth and power get kicked out...for now.  Though I do note that the police seemed more concerned with the counter-protestors than the nazis.

Gov. J. B. PRITZKER, Poking fun at Trump, Says Lake Michigan Is Now Called 'Lake Illinois'
QuoteIllinois gov. JB Pritzker (D) jokingly announced on Friday that the name of Lake Michigan had been changed to Lake Illinois, poking fun at president Donald Trump's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Pritzker said that Illinois was annexing Green Bay, mocking the president's interest in taking over Greenland. In a video posted to X, Pritzker intoned with faux seriousness, "The World's finest geographers, experts who study the Earth's natural environment, have concluded a decades-long council and determined that a Great Lake deserves to be named after a great state. So today, I'm issuing a proclamation declaring that hereinafter, Lake Michigan shall be known as Lake Illinois. The proclamation has been forwarded to Google to insure the world's maps reflect this momentous change."
