The lawyer noticed a strange pattern. In almost every state, at least one press release from Ice's website appeared in Google's top results. Nebraska, for example, surfaced links for two press releases. One said "ICE executes federal search warrants in Nebraska", the other said "ICE fugitive operations team arrests 44 absconders". Both displayed their dates of publication as 24 January 2025 on Google search. But when the lawyer clicked through to the report, the actual dates of publication were August 2018 and June 2008, respectively.

"I've now done it in all 50 states ... and I've done it in multiple cities. And it's the same thing," the lawyer said. "They all had the last update of 1/24/2025 and they were all popping up at the front of the algorithm."

ICE also has not explained what's happening to the migrants who are arrested. NBC News reported this week that some migrants arrested by ICE under the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign have already been released in the United States, on a program that monitors them.

Kocher said questions about the data are especially important to ask because the administration has a "political incentive right now to put numbers out, to try to show that they're doing something."

Getting accurate recent ICE figures has been...tricky

So if I'm understanding correctly, some of the mass deportations we're hearing about are actually years or decades apart, and ICE isn't booting out nearly as many people as they're making it look like right now.

The question I want answered now is, to what purpose? Scare immigrants? Look more impressive to Trump and his base? Some combination thereof?

A couple of weeks ago some sanctuary cities like Chicago, were going to get invaded by large Customs enforcement patrols that were going to do some serious house cleaning, but since then, I haven't read anything about it. Why make public that it was going to happen (they even gave the date it was to begin) and then report no results?

Maybe it's harder to do than just walk in and start knocking heads. Maybe there aren't as many illegal aliens as we thought? Actually, I think there are a lot, so they shouldn't be that hard to find. But why tell them you're coming?

So conveniently after President Musk advocated on Twitter for an influx of specifically white South Africans to escape "persecution" in South Africa.



The supporters of this sort of thing must spin their heads trying to square mass deportations with this and pardoning insurrectionists.  This is in line only with a very specific ideology and Musk is very fond of its salute.

JB Pritzker (D) jokingly announced on Friday that the name of Lake Michigan had been changed to Lake Illinois, poking fun at president Donald Trump's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Pritzker said that Illinois was annexing Green Bay, mocking the president's interest in taking over Greenland. In a video posted to X, Pritzker intoned with faux seriousness, "The World's finest geographers, experts who study the Earth's natural environment, have concluded a decades-long council and determined that a Great Lake deserves to be named after a great state. So today, I'm issuing a proclamation declaring that hereinafter, Lake Michigan shall be known as Lake Illinois. The proclamation has been forwarded to Google to insure the world's maps reflect this momentous change."
