Near death experiences.

I'm not very knowledgeable about drugs, but, doesn't DMT or something else psychedelic like that induce some sort of trip similar to a near death experience hallucination?

I'll have to look that up later...

I'm pretty sure its been proven long ago that near death experiences are actually the result of the brain releasing huge amounts of DMT (same neurotransmitter released during REM sleep) when it perceives itself to be on the brink of death.

And yes, DMT is considered a psychedelic and hallucinogenic neurotransmitter.
