No identified coronavirus patients at the hospital where I work yet. I feel like the hospital staff is prepared as they can be. The administration has arranged for free child care for employees while they are working since all schools are now closed. The hospital is offering free e-visits screenings to the community. Drive-through sites are available for sample collections for testing for people who have a doctor's order through their physician or e-visit. Triage tents have been set up outside the emergency rooms for those with respiratory symptoms to be evaluated. There are also various procedures in the facilities to protect staff and patients.

Not only monkeys share but read the following:
Now, new research in Science suggests that rats are capable of empathy. The study tested how rats responded when their fellow rats were trapped, and found that they would not only spend time and energy deliberately helping their trapped companions, but they would even share food after liberating them.Dec 8, 2011

Apparently people are less civilized than monkeys and rats.

Nature lovers agree.   But my cats are way superior to your dogs ;-)

Meanwhile outside the political blame-o-sphere ...

The fact that the US isn't prepared, is a multiple administration problem.  The master national plan was worked out in 2003, but not fleshed out.  Bureaucracy and over-regulation at the CDC led to the failure of the initial testing plan in the US.  And the biggest problem is arranging for most of our medicines and medical equipment to be made in China, because it is cheaper that way.  Russians may have a better system, but only if you trust their numbers.  I doubt them even more than I doubt the Chinese or Iranians.  Unfortunately it seems that Spain and France are going down the Italian route.

We have local testing now.  All schools are closed as of tomorrow.  Groups above 100 are banned state-wide.  And the public health department is the hotline instead of going to your local clinic, family doctor or emergency room.  Pelosi tried to add typical Dem riders to the bill now signed.  Social degeneracy in liberal government areas (allowing public indecency and homelessness) create a population as vulnerable as nursing homes.  Pandemic unfortunately may solve that problem.

If an Italian situation develops in a city, or larger unit ... no hospital system can cope.  Either the curve gets flattened thru social gathering/touching control, or a bad triage situation will develop (as in Italy, doctors decide who gets ICU care, decide who lives and who dies, just as when the first dialysis machines became available (I think they did a lottery for patients)).

Where I work, an employee tried to come in while gravely ill and complaining about muscle soreness.  He was turned away, but just took some meds and came back later, claiming that he "feels fine".  He is NOT fine.  And he is a very close talker and never washes his hands.  And btw, there is no such thing as sick leave here.

Tuesday, I get to decide if I want to come to work and potentially expose myself and my family to this disease or not.  I'm thinking about falsely claiming that I'm coming down with something or some other excuse so I'm not at ground zero when this new plague sweeps my workplace.  I'm an honest person most of the time, but I am not lawful stupid; there are lengths I am willing to go to protect myself and my family.  If necessary, I am considering suspending my employment temporarily and resuming it after this crisis.

I feel like I'm a worker at Umbrella Corp at Raccoon City.  Greed and carelessness have brought this outbreak to my doorstep.  At this point, I feel like disaster is now unavoidable and all I can possibly do is mitigate the damage to me and mine.

Previously, I got hit with someone coming into work with bronchitis (thankfully, they took vitamin C pills to counteract it, gotta love the American education system).  And I would've gotten the flu vaccine if I were healthy, but I was still recovering when that same person also brought the flu and it swept the workplace over the course of a single day, infecting a dozen people including me.  It then spread to my family, requiring me to escort a family member to urgent care and a week of convalescence and fevered dreams for me.  Point is, dealing with the tragic consequences of idiots spreading disease is not a new thing for me.  I shoulder the burden of managing disease, they accept neither responsibility nor change their behavior.  If I were not soon to be sick myself, I would half-jokingly praise North Korea's methods of combating communicable disease.

Good luck with that.  Not all workers will get paid "sick" leave let alone paid "voluntary" leave, though at this point both would be wise.  Society isn't set up to do wise things ;-(

My former military medical coworkers are in the thick of this.  I feel for them.  Do know what your public health department suggests, and follow their advice.

I came across an interesting article on Slate tangentially related to the Covid-19 virus.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/03/coronavirus-tsa-liquid-purell-paid-leave-rules.html

Basically it's about that a lot of reservations and rules that are enforced in the U.S. are arbitrary and not for the betterment of the people living there, but for the almighty dollar.

Mr.Obvious

I was allowed to go to work today.
Tomorrow I stay and work from home.
Wednesday I go to work at the office.
And then I stay home working 'till next week friday, followed by more work from home.
Then I work at the office the wednesday after and that friday as well.

I'm going to go stir crazy. I have to do it. I was thinking about taking a holiday next week monday and just go for a 100km bikeride or something. But even that should be avoided if you can. So I shouldn't.

A lotta people will go crazy with this. Social isolation for extroverts will have some negative feedback.

I do predict a vast amount of trolling coming online

Not from me.
But please, If I seem more crude than usual, this is probably the reason.
I predict a short fuse for trolling behavior.

That is one of the least shocking statements I've heard in a long time. A very long time...
