So it turns out that some of the biggest coronavirus hotspots are in prisons.  And they're almost perfect breeding grounds for the disease - prisoners are sandwiched together and apparently poorly supplied with soap, guards come into contact with the prisoners then the community.  Disease incubation + disease spreading.

And the US has by far the largest prison system of any western country, so there you go.

Which is why Dems want to release all prisoners, as a humanitarian gesture.  And to get more recruits for the riots and looting.

Prisons wouldn't have crowding, if we had mandatory executions for most things ;-)

At 5 pm today Greensboro will begin requiring face masks to be worn anytime a person will be in contact with other people in public or private spaces where it is not possible to maintain proper social distancing. The requirement applies to both indoor and outdoor places, including grocery stores, pharmacies, business locations, parking lots, sidewalks and on public transit.

QuoteVirginia
On May 26, Gov. Ralph Northam announced that everyone over the age of 10 in Virginia is required to wear a face covering in public places such as retail establishments, restaurants, public transportation and anywhere else people congregate. There is no legal enforcement for this order.
This is news to me.  Where I live this rule is strictly NEVER enforced EVER. I don't know what it's like in other parts of the state.  I know the county next to me never enforces this rule. I was even wondering if Virginia had a policy, not that it apparently makes one bit of difference.

Help me get up to speed here.  Why exactly is the US doing worse than any other country on stemming the tide of Covid 19?  Maybe it's because of caveats like:  There is no legal enforcement for this order.

I dunno.  Maybe Costco enforces it, like in that video from a month ago.  From what I can tell you could probably sue Costco in Virginia.  Some judge would site the caveat, and you could end up owning the whole chain.

Just this morning, an obnoxious senior got kicked out of Lotaburger, for coming to pick up his phoned-in order without a mask.  It is enforced by business, if that is a business rule.  The cops only do what their liberal mayor want, or eat donuts and drink coffee.  You know the routine ...

So capitalism is enforcing this here.  Not Lenin's stormtroopers.

Unfortunately, this is how some people in the US interpret that:

Just tell them that the face masks prevent them from being picked up by face recognition software in the secret monitor cameras Obama hid everywhere.

Actual empirical data ... today at Safeway (grocery) half customers were wearing masks, half were not.  I blame quantum mechanics ;-)

I would love Trump to admit he breaths air, so that all the Dems would hold their f*ing breaths.  Toddlers on LSD.

The US is back up again.  It's hard to tell on this grey-on-white graph, but yesterday took the #3 spot with 36,015 new cases, just barely below #2's 36,090 and #1's 39,072.  Both of those were from almost two months ago - so we're nearly right back where we were.

More active cases than ever before - 1,280,314

As you can see my lovely state isn't doing so hot either.  For a few days, it was below 1000 and I thought things were finally turning around, but no.  1,721.  The second highest daily infected ever.  Awful.  At least the deaths aren't so bad, but with infections spiking again, that's only a matter of time.  :'(

And a very worrying this is that the infection rate (% of tests which are positive) has slowly increased - it used to be 8% then dropped down to just under 7%, now it's at 7.1% again - erasing a month of minor progress.  And hospitalizations continue to increase.

Texas has taken a hell of a beating - the past couple weeks has blown everything previously out of the water.  And to make matters worse, its hospital situation is getting bad.  Houston ICUs nearly out of beds

I have a bad feeling this country has only started.  Especially now that the majority of new cases are of people 40 and below.  The prevailing idea seems to be that the corona virus is just the flu.  If one is young, it will cause some discomfort but it won't kill ya.  nobody hears the drs, nurses and other care givers that it is NOT the flu since it can and does attack the entire body.  And some of it's effects, even when a person has recovered, are lifetime effects.  But there is a huge 'can't happen to me' attitude that will make this much, much more worse than it is even now.

It will be interesting to check back in with those wonderful young people who jammed that wonderful mega church in AZ--wonder how many of those young people who are safe from the bad effects of the corona virus aren't feeling so good.

Are you agist?  What about all those college kids who went to the beach in FL/CA in May?  Or are you only against churches, but not against demonstrations ;-)

We have 156 deaths in my county, and we don't have a big population.  Native American poverty and higher percentage of elderly.  So I am not so much worried about your county.  We have two Covid hot patients in my trailer park alone.

Also not impressed by expat English (Labour) comics or expat S African (ANC) comics.  Reminds me of Tokyo Rose and Lord HawHaw during WW II.

In yet more bad news (sorry!) apparently some of the masks=socialism geniuses are ramping up their culture war against science and public health.  They've resorted to creating fake disability cards to try to exempt themselves from wearing masks.

Karen-level self-centeredness?  A complete inability to understand reality?  A desire to deliberately cause harm?

Can't we just tell these people that Jesus and/or Trump want this pandemic to be over with asap and to do that you need to take minor precautions?  Where my Pro Life people at?

Unbeliever

You can give Trumpettes facts, but you can't make them make them care.

Oh, I would love to come down on some knuckledragger who tried to use that.  ftbagency.com -- you know, a real government agency is .gov, not .com, we can start there.  I would cheerily chuck them out the door and dare them to sue under the ADA.  The judge would laugh their ass out of the courthouse.
