Hi there.  I identify as an atheist, so I think I'm in the right place.  I'm new to this forum, and I'm interested to see other like-minded people's thoughts and opinions on various theological/philosophical topics.  

I'm from Texas.  I was brought up in a Baptist church, but a couple years ago I realized I don't believe in a god or afterlife.  As churches go it was pretty liberal; I was not brought up in a strict, fundamentalist, conservative setting to later have a wholesale rejection of religion and everything to do with it.  (I was very lucky in that respect).  My parents, only one of whom is a Christian, were very open and accepting when I told them, as were my friends.

Hello! I was raised as a Baptist too. That's great how your family is so accepting. Most people aren't quite so fortunate. I think it is slowly becoming easier for atheists though.
