Ancient Art of War at Sea. I killed any number of ships-of-the-line with a single frigate. But it wasfree and new.

Thought I'd share some of the characters I've made in City of Heroes so far. This game is becoming my new obsession.

Nightburn: A hero who uses purple fire and lightning for crowd control. I find it interesting that her wings appear to be different colors, depending on the color of the background. She has an alternate costume with no wings for use indoors. The story I have for her is that she had the name "Nightburn" passed down to her by her mentor, along with their power source, the ruby in the center of her belt. The energies from the ruby are said to come from a circle of Hell.

Black Light: A rebel from the alternate dimension Earth called "Praetoria." I basically accidentally made Starlight from The Boys. lol

Unborn Star: A cosmic villain, inspired by Silver Surfer and Ego. He's meant to be the remains of a dead star, which had somehow taken sentience and wandered the galaxy until finding its way to Earth. Unborn has one singular goal: To become more human. He uses humans as test subjects, causing suffering in hopes that he can learn to understand them. Once he's learned empathy, he plans to disguise himself as a normal human and hide among us.

I played a game called F-22, about fighter jets that was pretty cool, but too easy.

Basically, this is a Tell Tale game set in the Invincible universe.  At least, in terms of tone.  Sarcastic, deadpan humor galore - mixed in with some great heartfelt moments.

You're the guy in the chair dispatching superheroes to different crime scenes (though I'm pretty sure that about 30% of these situations are not technically illegal) where they either pass or fail various skill checks and RNG checks.  (fellow XCOM players know the pain of botching a 90% chance of success)  Also, you can sometimes choose their tactics, which can swing things in your favor if picked well.  I'm not going to say it's realistic to have a perfect run, but I'm also not going to say a perfect run is absolutely critical to beating the game.

There are hacking minigames and I'm not gonna lie, they range from easy as pie to legit difficult and that's 100% player skill, so I'm kinda nervous about my ability to do that well.  I hope there's some sort of mod when I get my hands on this game...

And last, but certainly not least, there's a Tell Tale storyline with tough choices and relationships and drama and lots and lots of jokes.  Clementine will be remembering everything you do, so you better do a great job cutting her hair.

I'm tempted to make myself an OC superhero for this game, so just imagine Hydra as a hero on the roster.
Likes: the ocean, water, spicy food
Hates: fire, darkness, corporate buzzwords
Starting skills: 2 combat, 3 vigor, 1 mobility, 1 charisma, 2 intellect.
Starting ability: heals from injury faster.  Also, can't be assigned to solo missions. (I'm a bit of a team-player, also I'm terrified of dark alleyways)
Unlockable ability: In teams of 2 or more, takes an injury instead of a teammate.  Only once per mission.
Unlockable ability: In teams of 3 or more, gives other teammates +1 to all stats.

Somehow, I forgot to share the brilliance that is Jack Hughman, despite his name being on the character selection screen. lol

I heard a YouTuber struggle to remember the Australian actor who played Wolverine, and he blurted out Jack Hughman. I thought that was hilarious, so I immediately got to work making this.

They're a shapeshifting alien who studied human behavior by sitting outside someone's window and watching X-Men movies. They take the form of what they think is a normal human, and the name they come up with is Jack Hughman.

I'm glad you're enjoying the game.  Can't beat free.  And it's remarkable that not only has it risen from the dead, it's still being developed.  The upcoming patch will add sonic attack for melee characters, so get ready for lots of Banshee and/or Black Canary characters.

I quite like the game because there's easily-accessible group content for characters at any level, so you don't necessarily have to rush to max level.  And even at max level, you still have a pretty lengthy process to gear them just right.  But there are nightly raids open to all and it's fairly easy, mostly just follow basic instructions, you don't have to memorize boss mechanics or anything.

This is one of those games where patience and a small amount of ingenuity yields good results, as opposed to meta builds or abusing mechanics or flawless execution.  I like how the endgame is basically just chasing badges or just stuff you find fun rather than chasing gear that just becomes obsolete next patch.

Here are some examples of things people have made an uploaded in JWE3. It's awesome to see such creativity in display, and shared for free. I'm a creative guy, but architecture is not my speciality. I'll definitely be making use of some of these.

Age of Empires 3?  A bit different, but I quite liked it.

My two favorite empires are the French and Ottoman empires.  French workers are just better across the board, and everyone knows that the strongest unit in any RTS are the workers.  Plus, they have better relations with the natives, which can come in handy.  The Ottoman empire produces their workers for free, but you have to pay for upgrades to pump them out faster and raise the cap.  And naturally, they have the big cannons.  Their Janissaries and Abus gunners are also amazing.  In the expansions, I quite liked the Aztecs and Japanese.

I actually bought III but haven't returned to play it. Maybe I'm too lazy to learn new ways to cheat.

The AI is pretty inept in that game, so it's not too difficult.

Though you do have to do a lot of micromanagement, especially early on.  Because it's crucial you get your explorer after treasure right off the bat while managing workers and selecting shipments (and making sure there's at least one idle worker at your town to collect said shipment).  It can be a bit much.

One of my favorite tactics is to make landfall with a bunch of grenadiers and ambush far-flung enemy workers near a forest or mine.  The enemy likes to harass my workers as well, so I try to put up walls early and have forts at just the right places to slow them down enough to be intercepted.  My workers miss out on some fantastic far-flung resources, but I'd rather them work a plantation and be safe than venture out and get killed.  Plus, the less time I have to spend managing workers, the more time I can spend managing my military.  Wars don't wage themselves.

Recommend any games based in space?

RTS or turn-based?  If RTS, Sins of a Solar Empire.  If turn-based, Endless Space 2.

For non-strategy, my brother likes Mass Effect and No Man's Sky and Rimworld.

I think I have "Sins" somewhere, I'll take a second look. T/Y
