There is no Marxist Utopia in the US.  I don't know where it is now, but California was the 7th largest economy in the world.  New York is probably the 1st largest economy in the US, and has more culture like the arts, although I'm talking about a city, which isn't as big as a state.  Detroit put all of it's eggs in the American automobile industry, which survived for as long as it did on an unrealistic patriotism to buy American even while Japan, and now Korea of all places, are making more popular and economical cars for the American consumer.  Detroit was always a major shithole IMO.  California not so much, especially as you travel north.  I wouldn't want to live in New York or California.  Some places in the US are more desirable shitholes to live than others.  I don't want a Marxist Utopia anymore than I want a fascist republic.  Since I left Chicago when I was 17, I've always lived in places surrounded by conservatives.  IMO, these types of places are the least worst shitholes, but my life revolves around nature, and I don't make choices about where I live based on the local political climate.  I don't think I would be happier surrounded by liberals if it meant being in crowds and tall buildings.

Has the US ever been like Athens?  No.  Has the US ever been like the Roman Republic?  Yes.  Plutocracy and militarism.  So unless you are a plutocrat or associated with the MIC (or domestic injustice system) ... you are a pleb (welfare mother) or slave.

The really sad thing for the Republicans is, if they didn't have a man with the emotional maturity of a three year old in the White House, they could have resolved this in a minute by â€" as I suggested before â€" withdrawing Kavanaugh and instead nominating any one of a number of female conservative Federal judges.  Judge Barrett's name was the one most often mentioned, but she's in no way the only alternative.  Democrats would have been unable to mount a very serious opposition to a female nominee under the circumstances, Republicans would have their conservative court, and that would be that.  That's plain old politics.

Instead, you have a spoiled asshole in the Executive who throws a tantrum if anyone even hints at saying "no" to him, and a hypocrite, coward and liar running the Senate who didn't even want Kavanaugh nominated in the first place about to shove through a damaged nominee and guaranteeing a damaged court that can only operate under a cloud of public distrust for years to come.

There are times I wonder if this is all a plot by libertarian-leaning Republicans to undermine any vestige of trust left in any part of the government whatsoever.
