I don't honestly think this is the case.  Black people, especially ones old enough to remember the civil rights battles, are almost always EXTREMELY religious.  There is no biblical basis for racism, nowhere does the bible say "black folks aint people".  The bible DOES say "kill homos".  There was never a way to claim that one can choose not to be black, but there is an easy way to claim homosexuality is a choice, even if it's biologically erronous to do so.  It's ironic, but it's not terribly far-fetched that it's not a selfish idea on their part.

But there ARE many verses where slavery is justified, and even commanded, by the God of the Bible. Slave owners used these verses to bolster their view that slavery was ordained by God, and therefore right and proper. So while there is nothing specifically about dark-skinned people from Africa, there is a lot about the proper place of slaves, which is what millions of Africans became once they were captured by Bible-believing white folks. I guess for me, the real wonder is that blacks accepted a white man's religion that placed them on a level with cows and horses--animals that served a purpose and could be abused at will.

Xtianity has always appealed most to those who benefit financially and the uneducated underclass that support them. Aren't younger and more educated black people turning away from their church, like Infidel Guy, for instance? (I've always thought it would be really cool to actually meet him in person some day.)

I think that's simply younger and more educated people from all demographics are turning away from the church. The funny thing (particularly in light of the thread on "Christian persecution") is that they've done more to cause it themselves than any skeptic or other religion's groups ever could. Between the crimes against humanity of the Catholic church and whackjob fundies forcing their way into politics and education particularly starting with the Dubya administration & Congress at the time, they've completely turned off anyone with half a brain. The internet is rapidly speeding up the process, though it also gives them the means to spread propaganda slowing things slightly.

Be carefull bashing "rednecks" Hillbilly prides himself on being a "redneck" and I can tell you, no one gets you to write a poem about music you hate(I wrote a poem about Woodie Guthry) because of Hillbilly Atheist, who rightfully pointed out to me much to my horror, that not all "rednecks" are racist homophobes.

Woodie Guthry was a country bluegrass star during the great depression advocating for the working class and working poor. Willy Nelson has collaborated with Snoop Dog, and also has a country song about advocating for gays.

I think it is more a politics and class. The rich and the right are great at dividing people along race and demographics.

Well if they are not students of that school they shouldn't. But what's the policy? Can students bring someone from outside as a partner? If that's allowed, they can also bring an alien with them of course. Why not?

As long as the alien is of the different sex. We don't want homo aliens ruining our traditional proms!
