They arrested at least 1 person per county. I actually know one of the arrested people. His picture is on there. So fucking weird. I would have never suspected the guy was in to kiddie porn. My friend told me about it while we were skyping this afternoon.

Just goes to show you. You may personally know a person that is in to child porn. Nasty to think about. I'm just glad I was never too close to this guy. I used to hang out with a mutual group of friends a while back, but not frequently. For some reason, something always rubbed me the wrong way about him too. He seemed a little.... weird. Like.... something in his face.... like he was perma-stoned or something. Like he smoked way too much weed and it just permanently stayed like that.

For a good hour, all that I could say was "ew" "what. the fuck" "WHAT THE FUCK" "That is fucking gross" "Dude. what the.... fuck" "Why" "Why... just why??" "So fucking gross"

Needless to say, I'm glad he's in jail.

Like Jared Fogle, the Subway guy. Always thought he was a little off. Sad that these people exist and are exploiting children.

I worked with a woman who announced one morning that ex husband committed suicide the night before.  He had called her before he killed himself and  confessed that he had been caught in the distribution of child porn on the internet.  I understand he was part of a ring that distributed the stuff.  I had never actually met the guy.  They got divorced before I ever knew his wife.  Even she was shocked by the disclosure.  I suppose he felt some need to confess.  This was a small town, and it creeped me out thinking about more or less normal people I could be living around who were doing this shit.  Although, he had moved somewhere else.  I keep thinking it must have been to big city.  Why I should think that I have no idea.  I think it's a psychological defense to dissociate myself from thinking that people I could possibly know would be engaged in such behavior.  But such is the nature of a lot of criminal behavior.  People don't tell other people they are doing it, especially behavior that even other inmates in prisons consider to be slimy.

It is creepy thinking about, just about anyone you know, friends, family, workmates, neighbours, might be doing things like this. I'm very open about the porn I watch and collect, but I know mines a healthy interest in gay porn, big hairy men. I just can't concieve of the mentality of people sexually turned on by children :(

Many years ago my family owned a small hardware store set up in a strip mall store front. The strip mall landlord hired a guy to take care of minor maintenance and whatnot for the strip mall. So we saw him all the time. I had many conversations with him. This was in NJ but he was one of those doomsday prepper types. Lived back in the woods away from everyone else, had a ton of guns. I remember he talking about experimenting with home made explosives at one point and blowing up an old wreck car he had just to see if he could do it.

I'm probably not painting an accurate picture here. He was a nice, approachable guy. He was just that guy that was into guns and living in the woods and being more self sufficient than most. I don't recall if he was married or divorced or what but he had a teen-aged daughter that he often brought along with him. Nice young girl. Quiet, but fairly attractive as I recall. Knew them both for several years. She was quiet but seems perfectly normal otherwise.

Then one morning our strip mall maintenance guy was front page news. Arrested for molesting his daughter. Had been having sex with her since she was 12 or 13 and had allowed friends of his to have sex with her on several occasions. You just never know.

Growing up in the Mormon cult, I'm pretty sure some of the girls I knew had been molested. One was a Navajo adoptee that was displaying her physical attributes earlier than the other girls. She went from an outgoing friendly girl to one that didn't talk or communicate with others. I suspect she had been molested. There was polygamy going on in the area, and at least one girl was a chosen wife in her teens. A whole lot of stuff went down behind closed doors. Had the internet been around, it wouldn't surprise me to discover people were involved in it.

Someone from my city was on "To Catch a Predator". The fucker drove like 2 hours to the south of the state in his big rig to get some underage poon.

I looked up on some sex offender finder website the areas and where there are sex offenders recently. My town is empty as of now, which is a relief.... although, there is always the chance that no one has been caught in my town. On the other hand, a town or two over, in East Orange..... holy shit. You can't even see the map from the dots that indicate where a sex offender lives. Not moving there any time soon... aka: never.

Apparently, this is something about our evolution. We can detect predators of many kinds.

A primitive behavior, practiced in New Guinea, is the Murder Game.  You get best friends with someone, but you are planning a murder of that friend.  Guess head hunting by itself is boring.

I am a little torn on this. Yeah child porn is bad...yada yada...but just as there are men who watch gay porn and will never experiment or women who watch vids about sex with animals will never do it...etc etc..there are men who watch child porn and will never go near the real thing. Sure you can say that by "buying" the stuff they help promote it, but giving these guys ridiculous prison sentences is a little whacky. Charge them 5 grand and be done with it. Go after the real fucks. Kinda like charging the smoker for making the ciggies.

I think the problem with child porn is that to make it, it requires under aged participants that are not able to offer adult consent.  Whether they give their consent or not, they are not legally qualified to do so.  It would be like an underage girl having sex with an adult.  She may be willing and even an enthusiastic participant, but the adult involved is breaking the law.  The law probably exists because there is a somewhat universal feeling that children should not be used by adults for sexual gratification.  As far as adults viewing child porn, I'm not even sure they breaking an actual law.  In cases of normal porn created by consenting adults, there is usually a notification that all participants are 18 or older.  That's to protect the legal rights of the porn industry.  Now if a person wants to view child porn, I doubt that he has to provide documentation notifying the internet that he believes all the participants are of legal age.  Of course he couldn't do that.  So I'm guessing laws against child porn only pertain to production, but I don't know that for sure.  If someone knowingly views it, I'm not sure if it actually breaks a law.  It might.  I just don't know what law that is.

Gotta disagree with you there. And it is mainly indeed because it promotes the market for this stuff. Sure, buying and getting off on this stuff alone is already something vile that exists through the suffering of the victim and deserves punishment for that sole reason. But what message would it send by not coming down hard on the perps? The act of raping a child will get you thrown in jail but have someone else do it and wack off to that and a few similar clips for the rest of your life and all you'll have to do is pay up some money and maybe see a shrink. It's important to remember that they are indeed not just making use of the past abuse of some kid, by buying and sharing the material they are funding and encouraging others to go out and find more of this stuff and even make more of this stuff.
I'd be afraid the market would indeed grow. Maybe there should be gradient punishments between 'making childporn', 'distributing childporn' and 'watching childporn'. I don't know if there are or not. But it would work like the difference between 'making drugs', 'selling drugs' and 'using drugs'. But I wouldn't go too soft on the 'users'. And once they have a lot in their stash, one might get punished as 'distributor' because of the 'overbundance' of material.
The only part I'd be lenient in is the drawn stuff. Sometimes you see an article arise in the newspaper about some guy who had a lot of hentai of kids and got tried on that. Twenty years in jail for some drawings? As long as it's not actual children being used in the process somewhere, while it's still freaky, that's that guy's business. And if it can keep him from going out there and doing the real thing, whatever. But the actual stuff? No, come down hard and pull it out by the roots, imho.

well, there are no "roots", like every sexual "persuasion" it renews itself on its own. And although there is plenty of studies to suggest much of it is due to personal past experience, there are still many who simply go that route.

I am well aware the points of your argument, such as I mentioned them, yet…. how well did imprisoning the pot smokers help to quell the sellers eh?
