Antigay Pastor Arrested On 70 Counts Of Child pornography

Dave Reynolds is the recently fired pastor of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Sherwood, Arkansas. He’s currently facing 70 counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing child pornography.

Oh, and he’s also vehemently antigay.

The 40-year-old pastor regularly preached that marriage is between a man and a woman and that all homosexual activity is a sin.

He was arrested after police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which claimed that a social media account in Sherwood was storing pages and pages of child pornography.

The account allegedly belonged to Reynolds.

In March, Reynolds informed elders at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship that he was under investigation for child porn possession.

When they asked if he had engaged in viewing the material, Reynolds told them he had “not knowingly done so.”

The elders ultimately decided to relieve Reynolds of his duties and put out a statement saying the church was fully cooperating with police.

Our present concern is with the people of Cornerstone to whom the Lord has entrusted us as shepherds,” the church said in a statement. “We have been and will continue to pursue all avenues to determine whether any of Cornerstone’s people may have been directly or indirectly affected by any actions Dave may have taken.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds is maintaining his innocence.

In a statement released earlier this week, his attorney, Blake Hendrix, said, “Mr. Reynolds has pleaded not guilty and intends to vigorously defend himself against the accusations.”

Reynolds appeared in Sherwood District Court on Wednesday.

Bond was set at $250,000.

Court documents state social media accounts found several user names viewing explicit information back in December 2015.

These names were all traced back to Reynolds through an IP address:

Not to make light of the horribleness of the crime, but damn, those are some spectacularly creepy usernames.

Although he never mentioned it was child porn.

For an organization adept at prying into people's private sex lives, they sure dropped the ball on picking up on any warning signs.

Pedophilia is an illness. You don't put people to death for an illness. It's an illness that we do not understand. We study it. We look for therapy options. We don't murder people for something that they cannot help.

I agree with that.  It is an illness. 

Apparently it is an untreatable illness.  Which makes it very dangerous for our children.  It is not right or fair to be locked up for life because of an illness.  Except when a child is molested that is a life time sentence in it's own way.  If locking these people up protects even one child, then lock them up.  When a cure is found, then use the cure and let them out; but not until that happens.

Thousands of clergy have been abusing children for decades if not centuries. In house efforts to stop it, admittedly more to hide it than curtail it, have not apparently stopped them from doing it. They merely find a different location to do it. It is not just a Catholic problem. there have been several instances of Protestant clergy, some of whom were jailed, that came back, were allowed to join congregations as clergy and even youth ministers and continued abusing children.

Performing acts of an abusive nature against children is a jailable offense and should be. How is sodomizing a child different than raping a woman? It is a violent, damaging act, no different than any other physical assault. Declaring it a sickness is one thing, but to say that treatment alone is the answer does not protect the otherwise vulnerable young people who are entrusted to the care of ministers. There has to be a line in the sand, a point beyond which certain behavior is not allowed. Yes treatment is the ultimate answer, but there has to be protection  of the potential victim to go along with it.
