Tough Bodybuilders Crying in front of Judge


Antwerp / Stabroek / Berchem - Rough exterior, soft on the inside. That's a way to describe the bodybuilders who appeared before the Judge in Antwerp fridaymorning. The Judge let the three suspects go, after they broke down in tears.

The Antwerpian police uncovered a netwerk of hormone-dealers tuesdaymorning. The investigation was ongoing since last year and brought the investigators to Antwerp, Mortsel, Hoevenen, Schoten, Brasschaat and Wommelgem. At some home-searches, the beefcakes were dragged from their beds, one by one. the four suspects ended up in jail: the ringleader Alex V. (45) from Antwerp, Gaetan V.D.J. (26) from Antwerp, Bjorn V.H. (28) from Hoevenen and Roger V.S. (67) from Berchem. The last three are distributers of V. and supposedly sold his illegal wares.

In a garage of Alex V. on 'het Kipdorp' a massive shipment of hormones was found. It concerned classic anabolic steroïds, clenbuterol, growth hormones and pregnancy-hormones, pills to keep up the libido, pills for weight-loss and provibol, a medicine that ought to counteract breast-development in men. In total 1.510 containmentunits were ceized by the police, good for 97.471 euro on the black market. The investigators also came across five non-registred firearms with amunition during the search, in one of the homes.

Broken men

Four beefcakes appeared as broken men before the Judge leading the investigation in the big-scale hormone-trade. The suspects are familiars in the Antwerp-fitnessworld. Tough guys, you'd think. Yet some of them burst into tears at the idea of staying in jail for longer than a month.

For Gaetan V.D.J., Bjorn V.H. and Roger V.S. the council was mild, they are allowed to leave prison. They were given some conditions and can’t visit any fitnesscentra, as such.

Lawyer Xavier Potvin, who defends two suspects, is content. “My cliënts are releaved tob e walking free. They promise to continue their lives in a healthy manner”, he says.

The detainment of ringleader Alex V. has been lengthened by a month. “We respect the decision of the court and won’t try to have it overruled”, lawyer Tim Smet responds. “Our cliënt will give his full coöperation to the investigation.”
