Oh come on sgos, have you learned nothing from The theist Side of debating after all these years?
Just declare he hasn't brought any real evidence and claim you know your tp-way is best because you feel it is best. And then threaten him with explosive diarrhea for eternity if he Should continue his wicked tp-placing ways.

Well, I was just too tired to argue.  But the TP diagrams are basically worthless.  You can twist diagrams to get them to say just about anything you want.  This one conveniently fails to identify the left and right sides of the roll.   Someone is obviously trying to pull a fast one, here.  Nor do the diagrams indicate the placement of the wall, so that we can't tell if we are looking at the roll FROM the wall or TOWARDS the wall.  How does this prove anything?  I've been doing this my entire life, and never once had a complaint.  I even explained it to a college guy once, and he didn't say nothin'.  My father taught me to do it this way, and I teach my children to do it this way.  Sometimes in public bathroom stalls like at movie theaters, they do it wrong, and it really upsets me.  I have to take the roll out of that thing, and put it back in the right way so that when I pull on the end, the paper comes out with the top side facing up.

At least you recognize that you were indoctrinated as a child. It's a start.  :wink2:

I'm going to freakin' love it here!

Yes, this thread is an example of why we can't have nice things, but we can have fun that quickly devolves into absurdity.
How can you be sure my refusal to agree with your claim a symptom of my ignorance and not yours?

No, no.  The first way is wrong.  If I did it that way, the air from the heating/cooling vent below the hanger would catch the loose end and unroll the paper into a big pile when I'm in the other room.  The second way, the weight of the roll presses the loose end against the wall and holds the loose end secure.  In order to do it your way, I would have to redesign my heating system.

So, I'm hoping to have some actual intellectual discussions here which won't continue to ad hominem and horrible logical fallacies.
well….yer fucked already..

QuoteI also am against attacking people verbally over their beliefs. There is one thing to attack their argument, or the subject matter, but not them personally for believing what they do.

don't shortchange yourself of the fun…..wait to you see some of the whack-a-doodles that come through here

QuoteUltimately I feel we stay the course, these myths will die out naturally anyway, since their kids will learn from proper schools.

it is looking  good, but we have people lovin this new "intelligent design" bullshit that is gaining a little momentum

Maybe a little premature, but I think you an dI are going to get along very well.

Agreed. I'm new myself and these guys and pretty awesome. They really welcome new people and make you feel like it's safe to be yourself. I'm from the bible belt, so it was quite a shock for me. I hope it keeps going well and sorry you had to deal with brain damaged confrontational friends. And kudos on researching. I find it hilarious that we tend to know more about religious texts than the members of their respective religions do.

It's how most of us became atheists.
Agreed. We're almost forced to really. You can't argue against theists with logic and science alone. If you do, you just get told to read more of their respective holy book.

Reality is this, most of these so called theists have not even read the very book they claim to follow.
If a person didn't finish med school, can they call themselves a doctor?
If a person didn't complete Law school, can they call themselves a lawyer?
I don't know how someone who never read the entire Bible can call themselves a xtian!
Even worse, the few who have, how do they continue to call themselves an Xtian?!

Well put. I think most of them read it in parts instead of cover to cover. The ones that do have been told already what to think of each part. They are told what's symbolic/metaphorical and what's to be taken literally, what is holy/should be followed from now on and what was just about the time period and to not be followed, and what each part means. By the time some of them do read it cover to cover, they are so brainwashed they can't see it for what it is. Even those that do often stay quiet because it's so ingrained in them through years of operate conditioning that they are afraid of the doubt they feel and might even hide it with false statements showing the strength of their belief as their own mind naws at their insides. They often go for the better safe than sorry approach in the end. I think it helps that so many use the King James version which isn't the best translation or in modern day English.
