What is religious discrimination"?

I've never bought the idea that "not giving special privileges to religious people" = "religious discrimination".

For example there have been cases where Muslim women sued for "religious discrimination" because wearing a veil violated their employers' dress code, or cases whee faith healers were legally allowed to deny medical care for their children. Not to mention fundamentalist Christian schools and homeschoolers teaching "creationism" as a replacement for science.

I think this is a perversion of our legal system and needs to be rectified - "religious discrimination" is when an individual is singled out for their religion, such as if an employer allowed Christian employees to bring Bibles to work, but refused to allow Muslim employees to bring a Koran.

Allowing a Muslim woman to cover her face at work because it's "her religion" when other employees aren't allowed to do the same thing, is not "equal treatment" - it's just affirmative action for religious people.

By the same logic, why should Dzhokhar Tsarnev be tried for murder? He was just "practicing his religion" by blowing up infidels, so putting him in prison is just discriminating against him because of his religion - lol

Just basically it's where allowing for their insanity to be given a box they see as a human right, because they've been brainwashed so badly into believing what their faith preachers tell them is true.

Like you say, to the pursuit of education I can easily put aside my atheism, leave it at the door, to work  alongside others regardless of their own theism.
It's when they feel the need to force their theism into classrooms I take my own ground, and the greater percent of this has always been religious students trying to force their beliefs into schools against non believers. Same example of the forced heteronormativity pushed into schools at every turn, but the moment teaching anything about gay culture comes up, those who consider homosexuality as not being their idea of 'normal' go from claiming they are being forced to except something they feel 'offended' by, to outright primitive violence.

We respect people, not ideas. When the ideas are dangerous, the person beings to lose rights. Is that fair?

If someone is aggressive, then I won't respect them.  This is apart from whatever ideas they may have.  Lying, fraud, theft, thuggery, rape and murder are the spectrum of aggression.  The tricky one, the entry drug, is lying.  If someone is saying something false, but they don't know it is false, are they lying?  Or just being disruptive like a wild animal?

Educational institutions are ... institutional ... instruments of politics.  That is why public schools in particular are battlegrounds ;-(

Are you accusing me of segregation? Because to an extent I do agree that segregation of religion is needed, but in the classroom everyone has to be unified for the common goal of learning.
