You know what single pleasantry really irritates the hell out of me? Restoring faith in humanity.

It implies that the majority of people have lost their faith in humanity and a tiny, insignificant act of kindness can replace it. Until when? Until it's lost again by reading some tragic story about a child rapist? Like we're constantly flip-flopping between PEOPLE ARE AWFUL and PEOPLE ARE AMAZING!

I made a comment on a new story last week about a homeless man that returned a purse with $400 to a poor single mother with cancer. Everyone of course says to some degree "This really restores my faith in humanity!" I simply remarked that my faith in humanity would be restored when we had no more homeless people, or single mothers struggling to live under the burden of cancer treatments. People told me to lighten the fuck up, but I'm more of the opinion that if your opinion of humanity can be bought and sold so cheaply, you're probably doing humanity wrong.
How can you be sure my refusal to agree with your claim a symptom of my ignorance and not yours?

Good post, and I agree. However, it is nice to see there are people that really care in the world, and they are not all bat shit crazy.
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.

Sometimes you need a reminder that there are actual good people in the world.

I also dislike the abuse of the word "faith".  I certainly don't have any ... particularly not in humanity.  In fact, if you examine a modern person too deeply, then underneath you will find a medieval person trying to get out.  This is the real, universal trans ... you are a medieval peasant trapped in the body of a modern person.  People are like ogres, not like parfaits.

But yes, people can be fun to be around, sometimes.  Just don't invite them to any witch burnings!

Don't do that.

Well I'm restoring everyone's faith in humanity by buying the whole world a puppy and when it grows up you all get to clean up the giant turds.
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

Good stuff. For every thousand acts of kindness that happen almost continuously one act of meanness/evil/hate overcomes all the good in a single swipe simply because it gets the front page.

Well, yes, ogres are like onions, ogres have layers, too!

My implication was that humans are barbaric, like ogres, not like parfaits.
