I have often suggested that the best way to thwart the outward xian is to be more whacko than they are…this could be difficult but it could also be fun, next time start rocking back and forth like a poor mental person and get with the "YES Jesus,,,,,,and the GOD Bless,,,and keep rocking back and forth and let it out. Your parents will get highly pissed at the overt expressionism but you can diffuse that by saying, "god came to me" I think I am going into the priesthood, my friend Jimmy wants to go as well…and then start singing something from "sound of music"……hell yeah baby.

This is why that one group were call Shakers ... also previously ... Quakers.

I pray over my food often ... my screen name, Baruch ... means "to bless".  Rabbis pray over food twice, once before (in case it tastes bad) and once after (in case it causes heartburn).
Ha’át’íísh baa naniná?

What are you doing?
Are you taking any medications?
Don't do that.

I do much the same.  I prey upon my food at every chance--in public and in private.

I've encountered family and friends who do it, but never loudly. Seriously, what kind of prayer has to done loudly when your God is everywhere?

I encountered one person recently doing this ... actually singing the verse of a hymn ... at a restaurant on a Sunday.  He was clearly in the manic cycle of his depression, as most charismatics are.  I accepted his behavior with good humor and grace ... but I think some others were embarrassed for him.  Manic folks (not maniac) are interesting, and dangerous.  I once encountered a white bearded man in this condition, leaving group therapy while I was going in ... and I could feel is charisma.  If he had asked me to follow him, I would have ... even if he hadn't looked like the stereotype of G-d!

Yep, some of the most ignored verses in the NT:
-  Mat 6:5-6

I've even told this to people who ask me to pray with them, but they seem to believe it doesn't apply to them.

Nothing in the Bible applies to them, it only applies to other people. Ask them why they don't sell all of their belongings and give the money to the poor, as Jesus instructed, and they'll say it was only meant for that one guy way back then, not for Chrisitans today.  One wonders why they bother calling themselves by the name of a person whom they refuse to actually obey.
