A couple of thoughts; first, there are many thousands of cars driving around with Darwin fish symbols and various other xtian symbols tarnished, including the cross, which is the most venerated. And a statue of jesus qualifies, I think, as an idol- especially if any practical joke using it is considered desecration. So I think the whole desecration thing kind of rings hollow, but we will see. Small town minds and small town politics, imo.

Desecrating a vernrated object.  That's bullshit for "you hurt our feelings for fucking with our belief system".
Yeah, I'd never heard of that law before.  It sounds more like an Islamic thing.  The city council needs to come up with a list of venerated things, so you don't desecrate one by accident.

My list of venerated objects:

Pussy
Bewbs
Pizza
Cats
Dogs
Star Fleet
Fishnet Stockings
Foreskins
Led Zeppelin
Corvettes

just to name a few....

QuoteThe statue does not appear to have been harmed during the incident.

...

The young man is charged with “Desecration of a Venerated Object.”, which is defined as “Defacing, damaging, polluting or otherwise, physically mistreating in a way that the actor knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons likely to observe or discover the action.”
A worthwhile judge ought to throw this case out immediately, because the statue was not defaced, damaged, polluted, or physically mistreated in any way. It wasn't even touched. Yeah, it was, but it still wasn't damaged. It was simply posed.

If the picture was photoshopped, would it command this same attention?

Yeah, I know this is a technicality, but I don't think anything would be gained by this going through the courts and setting precedents.

Actually, in my version of Christianity, we must pray by giving Jesus statues head. In fact, it is blasphemy for anyone who gets within 69 feet of a Jesus statue to not perform the holy head rite.

The fact that there is this forum is showing irreverence to religion and its dogma, so you are all blasphemers and could get charged with that.    :police:  :rotflmao: Solitary
There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.
