Central UK. Mr average. Wife, 2 kids, 2 cats a Guinea pig, car and a typical job.

I've been fortunate to have been brought up entirely religiousless? apart from the usual school classes/morning assembly..

Until recently I've plodded on quite oblivious to any church type things and never given any of them a second thought but as I've got older and become more aware of what goes on in the world I find myself becoming gradually more militant in my thinking about atheism. I've had a distinct increase of JWs knocking on the door since living where I am now and that was a slight trigger in getting my back up.

I'm an occasional poster at TTA and also been stirring up a bit at CFS. I've been very careful there to behave and they tolerate me but I'm getting increasingly frustrated and will likely piss them off one day soon and that will be the end of that. I've been going through Genesis and picking holes but only got to Noah and I don't think I can bear to read anymore to be honest.

I'm interested in all these forums mainly because, unlike many of you here, I have little to no knowledge of the bible and the philosophy that drives folk to have faith so I want to pick up info where I can.

Bible info is easy to pick up.
I don't think philosophy has anything to so with driving people to have faith. I think it's pretty much about emotions for the real die hard believers and for the casual believers its more just about continuing on with the way the were raised and the sense of community that it brings with many friends and family sharing the same casual beliefs. Unlike those who post on the internet most people don't give it much thought on a day in day out basis.

'The Thinking Atheist' and 'Christian forum site'.

I know there are plenty of sources for religious info but I'm a lazy sod and a forum tends to keep my attention longer, it's far more entertaining and it gets to the nitty gritty stuff quicker.

Welcome to the forum.

I sort of have a memory but almost like it was blocked out, just a 'normal' ritual which meant nothing really (at least not to me). I would prefer the morning assembly to kick off with a mental 15min rave to the latest tunes. Now that would get kids in the mood for learning.
