I think most people feel that way.  And most of those that don't are so stuck on themselves, that everyone really does hate them.

Everyone doesn't hate you.  The truth is actually much worse: most people just don't care.  Because they don't care, it's easy, especially when insulated by miles of fiber optic cable and HTML, to do someone dirt.

Welcome to the forum.  You will find some kindred spirits, and some who aren't so much.  Hope you have a good experience here.

What gets me down is feeling like it is pointless to try to communicate with anyone as I always feel like I will only get negativity in return.

Keep trying to tell 4 year olds that there's no monster under their beds and you'll get the same response atheism does from theists.  If you want to start feeling better start talking to adults (mental adults - as far as I'm concerned, theists are mental children).

Try Meetup.com. Just type 'atheist' in your search and how many miles you're willing to drive to attend a meeting. You just might turn up a group in your area and instantly multiply the number of atheists you know. If that doesn't work, try 'freethought' or 'humanism'. If that doesn't work, maybe you can start one...but try it on FB first, that's free.

I'll just put what I am going to type out there & you do not have to take any of it literally. You need to go outside more, I say that because based on your post, it looks like that you sit down on your personal computer most of the day, surfing the interwebz while you are waiting for your younger brother to return from college. To be frank with you & with myself, I dislike people, the general public & I enjoy being alone, however, in your case, you feel alone & the only way to feel otherwise is to stop being alone. Now I dunno if you attend college or have any kind of work but if you don't, then look for a job & from there you'll know pleasant people & also the most disgusting individuals, which is fine.
(Correct me if I made any wrong deductions about your life)

I'm 24 and I own a home business B) I buy some of my merchandise from local people so you could say I get out, see people face to face but I find it difficult to get friends out of that.

I mostly feel the same about people as you and I struggled for years trying to 'be more outgoing' before realizing it. I still wish I had maybe just a couple good friends though.

Maybe grow up and learn to not get mad over a youtube comment.
If you are 24 years old and still get mad over things people say on the internet you have more important issues to deal with.

Hi... I am feeling a bit depressed today...I've been an atheist for a number of months now. I feel very much alone most of the time. My entire family and all my friends are Christian except for my younger brother, who is away at college and doesn't always have time to talk about stuff.

I've been watching the atheist experience a lot, and it helps alleviate the stress a little bit.

This morning I commented on this youtube video related to atheism. My comment was a simple remark..  nothing inflammatory or anything.. it didn't even have any opinion , just what My reaction was when I was watching the video. My comment was hidden due to the number of thumbs down and I got two negative replies; while one of the other comments that said nearly the same thing had the most thumbs up. Like wth?  This is part of the reason I am feeling depressed. It seems like 9 out of 10 things I post online, nobody likes. I feel like everyone hates me. I also have difficulty making friends. Even the friends that I sort of have never come around. No one ever seems to really like me enough to actually become a friend. Now I am an atheist and I can't seem to ever get out of people's hatred. I realize this might seem like it's totally unrelated but I feel like these things are all intertwined.

Most of the time I am a very happy person. I'm happy with who I am. I have a great life. But every once in a while I feel really trapped in my world. So I'm hoping to find some friendliness here on this forum.  So thank you to anyone who reads this.

If you FINALLY opened your eyes that the god thing is bullshit. You most resolve that you are one of the few that has decided to enter the world of reality and think for yourself. Yes it's a bit lonely. The god delussional mob up and think like a mob. They try to exclude you from all the reindeer games, but you will survive the alienation, believe me. The hardest part is family. People you thought you could trust for no other reason than being related. They become the most viament because they think that they can "save" you from yourself. What they want to do is save you from the truth, a truth that they refuse to accept or justare just too affraid to accept.

:-D Welcome aboard Cyanne! Feel sorry for people that hate because they are just miserable and want others to be hurt like they are. I have people here that hate me just because their opinions and delusions are different than mine. It's like God hates me, and I hate Him back. People that are angry are hurt emotionally, and if they hate their anger is hurting them even more. Other people's opinions about you don't say who you are, but it says a lot about them---they're asses, and that includes the hole.  :shock:     :roll:    Solitary
