I don't support enforced political correctness though, that type of social progress needs to come naturally, not enforced, for multiple reasons.
Everyone has their own definition of what's politically correct.

In your first sentence I think you are confusing political correctnes with not being an asshole. Political correctness is when you get censored or ocstersized from presenting your ideas and research about a topic because it's offensive or controversial.

I guess I would have to ask what you mean by enforced political correctness. No doubt, you would consider laws banning the words to be an example. But what about short of that?

I have a hard time with some of the devastating social based consequences that have been leveled at some people lately due the the PC wave. Like losing your job for saying the word nigger. Is that really equivalent? Someone experiences a temporary annoyance that you used an offensive word, weighed against you losing your livelihood. Doesn't seem fair.

In a lot of ways I miss the days when you just got called a moron for saying something stupid or, at worst, got punched. Now its like you risk losing everything if you say the wrong word or express the wrong idea. In a situation like this, does it really matter whether or not there's a law against saying the word? You still can be smacked with serious consequences, and its even worse than that because instead of a measured judicial system determining your guilt, its the court of public opinion which is neither reliable nor fair. But the punishment it can dole out is still severe.
