QuoteThe 40-day takeover of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon appeared to be moving to a climax Thursday as the last four holdouts agreed to surrender only hours after FBI agents arrested Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, the father of the protesters' jailed leader, who had flown to the state in a show of support.

One of the occupiers, Sean Anderson, said late Wednesday that he had spoken with the FBI and that he and the three other protesters would turn themselves in at a nearby FBI checkpoint at 8 a.m. PT Thursday.

The FBI said agents had "moved to contain" the last four holdouts Wednesday by hemming them in with armored vehicles at  the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, which they have occupied since Jan. 2.

"We reached a point where it became necessary to take action in a way that best ensured the safety of those on the refuge," Greg Bretzing, special agent in charge, said Wednesday in a statement.

Bundy, 74, was arrested by the FBI after stepping off a plane at Portland International Airport Wednesday evening and taken to Multnomah County jail.

His two sons, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, were already in jail following the arrest of several original members of the takeover group Jan. 26 on charges of interfering with interfere with a federal officer  One person, Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, was killed during a confrontation with the FBI and state troopers after fleeing a police roadblock while en route to a community meeting.

The 40-day takeover of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon appeared to be moving to a climax Thursday as the last four holdouts agreed to surrender only hours after FBI agents arrested Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, the father of the protesters' jailed leader, who had flown to the state in a show of support.

One of the occupiers, Sean Anderson, said late Wednesday that he had spoken with the FBI and that he and the three other protesters would turn themselves in at a nearby FBI checkpoint at 8 a.m. PT Thursday.

The apparent decision by the remaining protesters to give themselves up came after a dramatic confrontation with the FBI that played out over an open phone line that was being livestreamed over the Internet.
David Fry, 27, of Blanchester, Ohio, sounded increasingly agitated, yelled

several times at what he said was an FBI negotiator. “You’re going to hell. Kill me. Get it over with,” he said. “We’re innocent people camping at a public facility, and you’re going to murder us.”

“The only way we’re leaving here is dead or without charges,” said Fry, who told the FBI to “get the hell out of Oregon.”

Fry, and the other three holdouts, Jeff Banta, 46, of Elko, Nev.; and married couple Sean Anderson, 48, and Sandy Anderson, 47, of Riggins, Idaho, joined the protest to oppose federal land-use policies.

The elder Bundy faces federal charges related to a standoff at his ranch with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in 2014. Bundy, who defied authorities in a dispute over federal land rights, owes $1 million in grazing fees and penalties. He also faces a charge of conspiracy to interfere with a federal officer and weapons charges.

Authorities Wednesday referred inquiries to the Las Vegas FBI office, indicating that his arrest primarily involved the dispute in Nevada rather than the Oregon standoff.

A post on Bundy Ranch's Facebook page said: "Cliven Bundy just landed in Portland; we are being told by eyes on ground that he was surrounded by SWAT and DETAINED."

As the confrontation at the refuge unfolded, the occupiers spoke by phone with Nevada legislator Michele Fiore, a sympathizer, who was trying to convince them to surrender. “I need you guys alive,” said the Republican legislator who went to Burns from Portland earlier in the day.

Bundy's lawyer, Mike Arnold, said the timing of his client's arrest was "terribly unfortunate" given Fiore's progress toward a resolution, according to The Oregonian.

Some more info here. Because I am an ex Mormon and spend time of exmo websites, contributors that were familiar with Lavoy Finicum said he was a wacko destined to go off and get himself killed. Kind of odd that Mormonism, a closed cult- like society has birthed a similar group of exmos who communicate and relate information about the cult. There are so many that have left and scattered literally around the world, you get eyewitness accounts by people who knew or know the perpetrators.

As I've said previously I grew up with people like this. The Cliven Bundys and sons live out in rural locations on the high lonesome, read Cleon Skousen's wacko conspiracy shit (yes, I've read it) and imagine the enemy- any kind you can think of- is going to come in the night and rape their women and kill them all.

These people come from Nevada, Idaho, Arizona and elsewhere. That ought to give you an indication of how pervasive this mindset is in the ultra conservative world of Mormon paranoia.

Cliven Bundy will get his day in court, finally.

Oh, how terrible... cry me a river. These fucktards have been abusing the system. It's time to pay the piper.

Lol. If Cliven Bundy is the brain trust behind that crowd, they have a problem. Dude wasn't smart enough to realize there were still unresolved issues with his behavior and wandered off his digs to offer his, uh, superior leadership. And as far as Ammon Bundy goes, that is proof the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Only got one word for this news report: good.

Let us hope. Cliven B. is supposedly a millionaire, so I'm sure he can afford it.

See? They needed a REAL LEADER instead of the Bundys.. Someone with name recognition,  someone not afraid to take on authority,  someone like...

Snidly Whiplash!
Of course he's probably Canadian though..
All hail my new signature!

Admit it. You're secretly green with envy.

Yeah let's see if the Bundys plural can pray their way out of this one, since they get direct insights from god and all.

Sometimes it's good to laugh about this stuff.  It's too bad one guy died, even if he was an idiot.  I suppose putting his hand in his coat was more of an instinctual reflex, even if he decided not to pull his gun out.  He made a mistake with fatal consequences.  The Feds didn't want a situation where he gets the first shot for free.  Then there may have been two dead guys.  It's a shame, but an understandable shame.  When a bunch of Feds have their guns on you, it's a good idea not to make threatening gestures.  You're already beaten.  Just accept it.  Tempting fate isn't a good idea.

I think overall the feds handled it well, even allowing Cliven a respite so he would congenially walk himself off his property and into their custody.

Lavoy Finicum is already being touted as a martyr, but I read stuff about him on Mormon websites that indicated he was a flake. Birds of a feather, imo.
