My gf is a scopist, which if you don't know what that is she basically cleans up court transcripts for court reporters. They typically only take down only part of what's said in court and depositions. A scopist listens to the recording of the voices in cases and gets everything down in a text file or on paper in readable format.  Few people would actually understand the gibberish that the court reporter takes down.

So, anyway, she's working on a case now related to the PBS Frontline program a few years ago about a cop who from everything I can tell and from everything she knows about the case and has told me killed his gf and the St Augustine sheriffs office and prosecutors covered up.
The Florida Department of investigation (don't recall the name of the department) called bullshit, but the case never went to trial and it was ruled a suicide even though almost everything screams homicide.
The case she's working on is the cop involved who was never charged is suing the Florida investigation department for allegedly violating his civil rights.
Here's the Frontline program if anyone is interested.

Hopefully "Cold Case" will take it up years from now, and go drag his ass out of whatever nursing home he is in and ...
Ha’át’íísh baa naniná?
Azee’ Å,a’ish nanídį́į́h?
Táadoo ánít’iní.
What are you doing?
Are you taking any medications?
Don't do that.

The investigator being currently sued by the cop has the evidence to put the cop away, but because of the litigation he can't talk publicly about the case and the state so far refuses to reopen the case where there is layer after layer of cover up. Funny thing is that several of the homicide investigators are no longer homicide investigators because of how badly botched the case was handled from day one so not only is the guy who committed the original killing being covered up for, but the entire sheriffs department has to cover their own incompetence and it keeps going up to the prosecutors office and now up to the state level for dropping the ball and letting it go.
Sadly this is not an isolated issue. Cops cover for cops, prosecutors cover for them and politicians cover for prosecutors and political parties cover for the politicians who cover it all up and on down the line.

You ever wonder why eight cops show up for something like a simple domestic dispute or some old feeble guy going wacko? For backup testimonies. I sometimes get coffee at the places the cops gather on their rounds, with hearing aids turned up full gain that will pick up conversations. I have heard multiple times at the local coffee shop, cops- sheriffs, city cops and Highway Patrol- all discussing and verifying their stories to each other. That is why it is so hard to beat a cop's testimony in court, because they are covering each other's backs. I worked with these guys as a firefighter. I don't have much respect for them.
