An American terrorism commentator has apologised for describing Birmingham as a "Muslim-only city" where non-Muslims "don't go" during a Fox News interview.

QuoteSteven Emerson told the channel that in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

He later issued an apology for his "terrible error".

His comments have come in for ridicule, with the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts trending on Twitter.

Mr Emerson, who founded a group called The Investigative Project on Terrorism, was giving his perspective on the terror attacks in France to Fox presenter Jeanine Pirro.

'Check your facts'

Birmingham City Council said Mr Emerson's "curious" comments had no foundation, and welcomed his apology, while Birmingham Edgbaston MP Gisela Stuart described the remarks as "stupid".

Fox News thinks a lot of things. Most of it is completely falsified information.

Steven Emerson is quite welcome to come and visit Birmingham to see the city for himself.  I'm sure the Brummies will welcome him with open arms.

I travel through Birmingham when heading up to scotland, and take a time when at Birmingham to look around the station and grab a bite to eat. Unless Birmingham is like 0.5% white people and they all hang around the station, and everyone outside the station across the entire city is Muslim, then I think fox might be telling porky pies.

Birmingham New Street is always full of tourists.    If you want good food, don't eat at the station.   Take a five minute walk up to Broad Street and have something to eat in one of the restaurants by the canal.

Starting to think Fox "News" lies on purpose.
I've said many times that fox news seems to be a parody of its self.

There is a reason it's nicknamed Fucks or Faux news

The lefties allowed muslims to have sharia courts in the UK.

If they didn't allow them there would be no campaign to get rid of them

I can't really leave the station when doing that, since I head up by train and its just a place to stop until the next train comes.

From what I understand, these so-called Sharia courts are more like arbitration courts, and that both parties must willfully agree to use this channel. They're used to resolve minor disputes, not for criminal proceedings.

It's not like the right could have stopped them either.  Neither of the right wing parties elected ever bothered even trying to ban them, and I'm not sure how they could as they aren't courts in the legal sense of the word.
