Ban GTA V? Why not the bible while you're at it?

Not sure if it belongs here or in General discussion, nevertheless I found it amusing

a few of the comment wars had good points too

As long as you get to play videogames at an appropriate age, just like watching movies at the appropriate age, they won't cause you to become more violent. There might be a difference if you subject your 4-year to slasher movies his entire life. Or if you allow them to play horror and action games from as soon as their hands can hand a controller. But that would only be because they can't tell the difference between reality and fiction at such a young age and would possibly incorporate it as they grow up.
For the rest of us, people who aren't thoroughly brainwashed at the infantile stage of our lives, we can accept the difference between reality and fantasy. That's why there are no studies proving that videogames make you more violent, more mysogenistic, more whatever.
Same can be said for the bible. If you're indoctrinated as a small child... If you're taught that it is infallible and not a piece of fantasy at such a young age. If you come into contact with it as a child, to small to understand what it means and implicates, you'll probably come to see it as real. But if you read it as an adult, or even just an old enough adolescent or so, who'se never really heard about it before or was taught to accept it as reality when (s)he was a kid, you'll be able to make the distinction between reality and fantasy.

There you go! Set off a holy war and kick the hornets nest full of dominionists who for the most part are in charge of our nuclear weapons..  Nothing says fun, fun, fun like a good old fashioned global nuclear exchange!

I've been waiting for the price drop.  I've done the other GTAs and they are wonderfully constructed and well thought out games.  Part of the reasons Bible thumpers have to rail against the series is because of its popularity.  While they are violent to be sure, they are simply good games that have a large following because they are good games.  They are interesting with so many things to do and see around the city.  You don't have to even play the game to find interest there.  You want to get rid of sex and violence?  Turn off your TV.  Burn your Bible.

Seems like it's been a while since the right has risen up against video games in general.  I've been wondering why they have been sleeping.  It took them long enough to wake up.  GTA 5 has been out for a long time.  The price has already dropped 30% since it's introduction.  Yee Gods!  Maybe it's too late.  Minds have already been corrupted.  Children are lost to Satan.  People are converting to Islam.  12 year old boys are masturbating.  Richard Dawkins is writing evil books.  People are thinking.  Oh my.

55 year old men are masturbating!

Well not right this minute. This one is sitting out on the back porch smoking a holy cigarette in the cold. :shifty:

Here is a great idea for a video game: The Bible From Lilith To The Rapture in all it's glory---uncensored. Added Bonus: The Qur'an, in all it's glory, with real stoning and capitation of infidels, and the unveiling of mans downfall.

Video games make a kid violent in the same way that the bible does.

The bible is supposed to be the immutable word of god, and he says I'm supposed to stone a woman for not being a virgin... so if that doesn't make one kooky, then how on earth is a video game supposed to?

Having said that, the Target/KMart ban on GTA5 is probably the best thing that could happen to it.  If I was a Rockstar shareholder or executive, I'd be over the moon upon hearing the news.  What better advertising could you ask for!  And what could possible make the game more alluring for kids than it being banned for content.

Actually, if I was a marketing guy @ Rockstar, I think I would perhaps try to covertly arrange this protest as a marketing effort.  Right out of the 2 Live Crew playbook - and I remember how crazy kids went for their music when it was banned.

I've been gaming since I was 3 years old, I have never fired a weapon in my life, and I've only been in a couple of fights.

I am not a violent individual, nor do any of the gamers I know of fit the profile.

Gaming doesn't make one violent, upbringing and idiocy makes one violent

Only ignorance makes a person aggressive and violent, unless the guys got it coming.  :biggrin2:
