Homo Phobia Is A Cultural Thing In Qatar, Bought To By The Bible And Love.

Gays should avoid 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Sports minister is less than reassuring about how gay fans will be treated at the event.

If you are a gay soccer fan and love the World Cup, watching at home on TV would be highly recommended over traveling to Qatar, where gay sex is illegal. Comments by the country's sports minister to the Associated Press did little to calm the sense that gays aren't welcome.

Asked how gay people will be welcomed in 2022, Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali replied: "It's exactly like the alcohol question."

He said Qatar doesn't want to create "this impression, illusion that we don't care about our tradition and our ethical values ... We are studying all these issues. We can adapt, we can be creative to have people coming and enjoying the games without losing the essence of our culture and respecting the preference of the people coming here. I think there is a lot we can do."

The reference to the "alcohol question" was his reply on whether beer sales will be allowed at stadiums in the country where alcohol is severely restricted. "In the hotels and many areas we have alcohol but we have also our own system that people need to respect," he told AP. "As we bid for 2022, we will respect all the rules and regulations by FIFA. We can study this and minimize the impact on our people and tradition. I think we can be creative, finding solutions for all of this. But we respect all the rules and regulations."

First off, he equates equal rights for LGBT people with selling beer. And I'm not sure what "creative solutions" can be found for gay people to avoid "minimizing" Qatar's tradition of discriminating against gay people. It sounds very similar to the solution proposed by Sepp Blatter, head of FIFA, the world soccer governing body, in 2010, when he said gays could avoid any trouble by not having sex in Qatar.

The next two World Cups -- Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022 -- are in country's inhospitable to gay people. Soccer may be the be the "beautiful game," but the people running it are pretty ugly.

It would be nice if the soccer community itself said "no thanks, well go somewhere else" But I guess they can't....or won't.

A bit of money in the right pockets does a lot to assuage any concerns about pesky little details like human rights. It helps if the oppressed group is a bunch of people a lot of other people don't care about.

Bible?

I would say so: 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (NIV).

1 Corinthians 6:11 - "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (NIV)

In Genesis 19 God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah due to the extensive amount of sin and debauchery going on in the city. Some add homosexuality in with the sins being committed. Others say that it was not just blanket homosexuality being condemned but homosexual rape, meaning it is different from homosexual behavior in loving relationships.

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV)

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." (NIV)

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (NIV)

There are some Christian homosexuals and there are those that desire deliverance from homosexuality. Rather than trying to be God and pass judgement on those individuals, a better option may be to offer prayers to those struggling with their homosexuality. Can't you just feel the love in that last statement? Like homosexuality is a fucking disease that should be cured.  Maybe it should be: let's offer prayers for all those struggling with their delusional superstitious nonsense.

I'm not questioning homo phobia in the bible, I'm questioning the influence the bible has over Qatar considering that, depending on if you take census data or PEW numbers respectively, only 8.5% or 13.8% of the population is Christian.

Muslims believe in the OLD Testaments, not just the Qur'an. I've heard Christian apologists claim they don't go by the Old Testament and only the New, Like God had nothing to do with the Old one. Good old pick and choose from the Christians, who would have known.  :wall:

Kind of. They believe that (parts of) the Old testament was inspired by god but that it has been corrupted and is no longer authoritative.

You are correct, I should have said they don't believe in parts of the Old and New Testament, and that the Qur'an supersedes them because we don't have the originals that talk about Muhammad, which begs the question on how they know this?  Just like Mormons that think Smith had special knowledge like Muhammad did.
