What is your belief about demons? Do you believe they were just an ancient explanation for mental illness, or that they actually exist and can influence a person or take control of them?

If you believe the material world is all that exists, then I guess that would rule out believing in demons, but if you believe otherwise, what is your take?

I don't know much about the occult, and don't particularly want to, but it disturbs me that some individuals apparently devoted themselves to studying black magic, apparently believing that they could conjur up evil spirits for nefarious purposes.
