Split decision: What to buy?

Right so my girlfriend and I have been looking for hobbies and things to do...

we both enjoy biking around, but currently it's so fricken hot that it's just no longer fun!  Recently I had purchased a mini-pc in hopes that I would get new DDR pads (high quality) so that we can pickup the game again.  I played in 1 tournament many years ago and was REALLY in to the game, as was she.

Anyways, right now we have a decision to make.  To purchase recumbent bikes $1,000 minimum a piece or to buy DDR pads for now ($500 for a set) and wait on the recumbents.

For those of you that don't know what a recument is... it's this

They are incredibly ergonomic and SO much better on the back.  Our bikes start to eat at us after so many miles (we like to do 15-20miles).

On the other hand, I can beat the summer heat for awhile and get my exercise in with DDR for $500!

Plus I really miss the game!

I'd enroll in martial arts-my choice now would be Krav Maga because you learn to be a badass in like six months. But you won't listen. You never do.

Pardon my French, but who the fuck rides those recliner bikes expecting to get any exercise? :-s

Thing looks like it'd be really awkward to steer, too. Might be better on your back... not so sure about your nerves.

lol, they are actually quite popular here on the bay!  You can get a ton of exercise especially with a good amount of distance!  Those bikes work different muscles than most people are used to, but it's no less exercise than a regular bike.

The bike has less wind resistance and is less of a stress on your back & butt.  This combination really gives a decent boost to your endurance which = greater distance :-)

That is a tough one. I'm an indoor person, so I'd go with the DDR setup. That way you can do ddr with you're friends.

The recumbent bike looks really tempting though. especially since you say you're on the bay.

Regular bicycle seats can cause nerve damage in the groin area with extended use.  But, are you willing to risk nerve damage there?  Just saying.  If you don't ride too much, I guess it is no big issue.  Still, if you and girlfriend enjoy doing other things inside besides DDR, well it might be worth the wait for the DDR if you do, do a lot of bicycle riding.

Might look for used recumbents to lessen the cost.  Not as pretty when you buy them, but properly tuned up, they do the same thing.

I say you should buy a sitar.

Definitely the Krav Maga.  The DDR looks kinda fun, for a couple weeks anyway.  My son's has been sitting in the closet since his initial burst of fun.  The bike is too strange for me, it looks too squirrelly.

Seriously though, get what tickles your fancy if the money's burning a hole in your pocket.  I'm thinking you'd probably use the DDR just a little more.

I second this.

Are you seconding the Krav Maga or the you won't listen? Are you disrespecting me or agreeing? I'm feeling a little sensitive right now...... :(

Quote from: "Onii-chan"Both seem pretty useless. $1000 for a stationary bike and DDR is a dead game. If you want exercise try swimming in the summer heat.

DDR is a great game all be it not as popular as it used to be.  The recumbent is most definitely NOT a stationery bike... It's a road bike

DDR doesn't have to cost $500. You can get the soft-mats for $50, tops, maybe cheaper. And they work pretty well. Just don't use them on higher floors, or the whole house will vibrate.

Also the popularity of DDR is irrelevant to whether or not you personally enjoy it, I would think.
