It is nigh-impossible to get a worthwhile version of Tempest these days.  :(

Also holy shit steam says 40,000 MB. WTF?
Yeah it's a hog.

If you want to hook up, servers are irrelevant, they use that cross server tech. My faction is Illuminati, but you can play with other factions too, except in PvP.

My toon is named Nynaeve. I should be playing most of the evening. PM me your toon name, or mssg me in game if you want. Hope you like it, and I did not talk you into a game you regret buying.

I had some issues with the login server. I read that it could take an hour for the game to recognize that you have access so I let it go until now. Ill give it another try in a few mins.
And on the wings of a dream so far beyond reality
All alone in desperation now the time has come
Lost inside you\'ll never find, lost within my own mind
Day after day this misery must go on

I sent you a PM so we wouldn't derail the thread. :)

I played Rift after reading about it here. It was a fun afternoon, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to log back in, because it's basically just WoW with random events. I really wish there'd be something fresh and new in MMO land, because I do like the concept, it's just the execution that's always the same.

In the meantime, I'll continue to build my own games. That's actually starting to become more fun than playing them.

Planetside 2 from sony, very addictive fps also it's free to play, huge battles, a-la Battlefield but bigger maps (continents) that 3 distinct factions are trying to take over. Multiple careers (engineer, light/heavy assault, medic, etc), highly customizable, you can buy your weapons, sights, upgrades, etc with real cash, or by cert points which are earned by experience. so you can have everything available for 'free' (except some superficial (cosmetic) stuff like camo for weapons/vehicles, horns for vehicles, suits for your characters, etc. stuff you really don't need) very nice game. takes a while to download (~8 gb). The game is updated and upgraded every now and then, including new weapons, bases, add-ons etc.
I chose the new conglomerate as a faction, the other ones seemed kinda dandy :P lol.
Highly recommended.
Fry: All in all, I've led a full life. Let's say the three of us grab a six-pack and watch the universe end?
Prof. Farnsworth: Hear, hear!
Bender: That's basically what I do every day.

ESL above, please be patient ;)

Think I'm about to sell both of my x-boxes (probably won't get much for the broke one), the 3 games I have remaining for it (only 1 of which I play anymore) and get some new computer games.

Been highly addicted to Civ. 5 again, so I really want to get God's and Kings. I'm also looking at getting Endless Space and its expansion. As for what else... no clue.

Anything cheap on steam yall would recommend?

(Also, Planetside seemed AMAZING from what i played, but my computer was too laggy to handle it :)

Cross-platform mmo-rpg. For mobile devices or as a Google chrome plug-in browsergame.
Leaving the 'platinum stuff' be, still leaves you with plenty of fun for free. I'm well past lvl12; level-ups and lucrative loot drops still occur at a high frequency. There are already expansionpacks for the gameworld.
No religion for me thank you very much; I 'm full of shit enough as it is.

Being flabbergasted about existence never made anyone disappear in a poof of flabbergas, so nevermind why we're here. We ARE here.

Gunpoint. It's about 10$, only a few hours of gameplay, but it's awesome. Like, seriously, "I played through the game twice in a row the day I bought it just to see what more there was to do" awesome.

One of my favorite games of all time is Tempest.

The problem is, it does not translate well to modern day controllers. The arcade original used a spinner knob which a d-pad or touch screen simply cannot replicate. I suppose a properly implemented analog pad or stick would work. But the DS versions of this game don't have that.

Well, I found this version online and it's the most playable I've managed to find, even though the mouse is a touch too loose. It's easy to mouse off the app which pauses the action which is like if a girl is sucking your dick and pauses just when it's getting good to ask if you'd seen the latest Johnny Depp movie. Well, maybe not quite that bad, but in either case someone deserves a donkey punch. But this version is playable if you can keep your movements small enough. Tempest is a game that requires precise controls which most other versions simply do not have.

Well, I ended up buying 3 new civilizations for Civ 5. + the Gods and Kings expansion (*I may not have mentioned this before, but I am a Civ. addict since I believe Civ. 2). Once I sell my x-box I should have more money.

Gunpoint looks interesting Plu, I've added that one to my watchlist.

Yea, and Team Fortess isn't that bad either for a free game. I'll have to re-dual boot Win 7 on my computer, because I haven't been able to play Black ops 2 or Skyrim lately since I have only been running Ubuntu.

I don't know if you guys have PS3, but, there are a bunch of really good free to play games on there including a Mulitplayer version of Uncharted and Tekken Revolution. There is also a Capcom collection game that I downloaded last night, that I didn't get around to playing yet.

Shiranu

I would like a PS3, but I am selling my good x-box tomorrow for steam cash. I don't play it anymore, I just use it for youtube, hulu, hbo etc... and I can use my x-box with the broken cd drive for all the online aps.
