Thanks for digging that out for me plu, and yeah........clearly perceived???
Of course now it was all in god's plan - and thanks to science and CERN, it can be clearly perceived. I'm beginning to think it is impossible to penetrate the fortress of stupid that christians use to shield their faith.
Q for theists; how can there be freewill and miracles? And, how can prayer exist in an environment as regimented as "gods plan"?

Faith is pride. So that's what needs to be broken before you can get to the actual person.

Space. :)
Which means that to me the offer of certainty, the offer of complete security, the offer of an impermeable faith that can\'t give way, is the offer of something not worth having.

I haven't heard theists talking about the "god particle" as "ammunition" to religious proselytism, but in compensation I'm already pissed off when they speak of evolution as "just a theory"!
"There is no logic in the existence of any god".

I don't bother acknowledging those who will misconstrue science to suit their own needs. I have no problem with honest religious belief but I have zero toleration for people claiming scientific evidence for the existence of their god. But I digress, I'm more interested in the follow up on this amazing discovery and would like to quote my friend The Rev.

Quote from: "url=http://thinkinguniverse.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=219&p=2968#p2968]trdsf[/url] "]I remember watching the announcement ceremony last summer; I tuned in just as they introduced Peter Higgs himself. That was pure magic -- it brought to mind a story about Einstein talking with some of the experimental physicists at Princeton in the early 1950s, being told that they were just then confirming a few of the weirder predictions of general relativity. He was partly amused and partly amazed, repeating over and over "Ist das wirklich so?' (Loosely, "Seriously?" or "Really?"), not having really expected some of them to be testable within his lifetime. Failing to include Higgs in this year's Physics Nobel would be a serious oversight. Probably going to be Higgs, and the heads of the two CERN teams, if I had to make a guess.

I wonder if this discovery will someday lead to a way to 'streamline' matter.  That is, partially or fully negate the intrinsic mass of an object by limiting or eliminating its interaction with the Higgs field.

Space travel would become way more convenient. Think of it...

Combine this with an eventual understanding of quantum gravity, and we could unchain ourselves from sticky concepts like mass and gravity, and perhaps even relativity.

I only regret that I definitely won't live long enough to see any of it.

I think we'd have to first find out just how matter and life behaves if that is possible. I'd hate to be some chap who had been de-massed only for some crazy shit I can't imagine happens. :X

You never know. If the ability to significantly extend our lives is created in the coming decades, you may well live to see it. :)

Perhaps we'll enter the fifth dimension. xD

If I could I'd live forever, with the ability to off myself when I do choose of course, but that's a different story.

So I ran the "God Particle" article on my FB page and lots of people started talking about god.   I don't think they quite 'got it' that a god-particle indicates a serious lack for a creator (?)
Their stance- the god-particle (thus named) indicates GOD made the particle.

help me

They're idiots. The term is short and minced for "goddamned particles"

It's a little retarded huh?  I debated to explain or not - and opted for "not".  lol

But their called the goddamn particles. If they were called the fucking particles, would they believe they were the essence of sex?

(they're - ?)

:rollin:  :rollin:  :rollin:  for *fucking* particles= sex.

Let's run with that one - shall we? :rollin:

Unfortunately the vast majority of mass in the protons and neutrons which make up matter comes from the strong nuclear force.
Eliminate that and you would be in a bit of trouble :)
