Welp, I'm sold.  Definitely getting this when I get a new comp.

I don't know exactly when the gameplay clicked (though it was pretty much from the start,) but this was the moment in multiplayer where it was just like... "Yep. That was fucking amazing, my ADHD is finally being worked."

Focusing on rocket timings based on audio and reflex, focusing on melee placements, focusing on ranges and should I switch from my rifle to my smg, positioning and counter-positioning to try and get a lock on... it's just a stimulation overload in the best way.

Jumping like a rabbit in a giant mech... feels good.

I am sooo unbelievably pumped for this.  My brother and I are going to play some wild missions together.  (I hope the difficulty is a little forgiving, cause I'm not a Homeworld pro by a long shot)

Today I fulfilled a lifelong dream of beating a Sins of a Solar Empire game in one setting (even small maps take at least 2-3 hours to resolve, bigger maps take 4-5 hours or more)

I think the latest patch disallowed the AI from placing minefields because those really slooooow the game down a lot.  Mentally visualize a sloth creating a tile mosaic and that's how long it takes to properly assault a planet defended by space minefields and fortifications.

The AI is still as spiteful and cowardly as always.  They really go out of their way to screw you over - going on Doolittle raids deep in relatively undefended territory, fighting you tooth-and-nail for any borderlands, engaging in clever ambushes and feints, and last but not least, siccing the pirates on the player above all else (UNO reverse card: I'm TEC rebel, so the pirates like me)

The only things the AI doesn't do well is invest in its planets and grow its economy, which is kind of a big one.  All the feints in the world won't overcome an economic mismatch.

Ok. I´m really loving elden ring.
But I am having a small gripe with it.
I´ll be the first to admit I am used to very linear games. And elden ring is quite the opposite of that. So i´ll admit to some bias.

But that is the thing. There is very little direction in the game. Which could work well, but it is making me miss a lot of the optional NPC quests, which makes the game feel ´emptier´ than it has too. It looks phenomenal, but it feels a bit ´empty´, not stuff-wise but npc-wise.

And then there is the fact that now I am in ´the weeping peninsula´. Which was clearly meant to be done before hitting up the first true Boss. But I missed it completely because there was no indication I should head there first. It even seemed like a bad way to go for training and levelling up, because of the gamedesign.
Instead, I just had to brute-force my way, underlevelled I imagine, through the first Boss
And I believed it was a skill issue, because how notoriously hard these games are.
So more unnecessary frustration there and no, that I am in the peninsula, in carving through it like Butter, taking away all tension. The npc-questlines are all jumbled because i´ve already gotten so much further in the game  again making it feel emptier.

Still love the game, but that is why I usually love more linear games.

I can't wait to play this game.

The only thing I don't like about it so far is the over-the-shoulder camera is often just a little too zoomed-in.  A few times, the space marine was struck by an offscreen enemy in melee range.  That's a hell of a blind spot in an action game.

Also, I didn't think the Tyranids were too terribly threatening until I saw those big flocks of...whatever they are, they ain't birds.  Definitely going to need some serious AA for that.

Ghost of Tsushima's walk-as-default mechanic has to actually be my favorite mechanic in any game I've played; not by itself, but when paired with the world, it is just... inspired.

If run was default, the game would have been an absolute flop.

I don't think i've ever won a military campaign in games like Civ; diplomacy or culture all the way.

Yeah, I went science or culture in Civ.  The maps were generally too big and battles too tedious to conquer everyone.

The game I'm talking about is Renowned Explorers, an oldish game where a three-man team of grave robbers archaeologists "find" ancient artifacts and place them on display at museums thousands of miles away from where they were dug up.  All above board, lol.

In the midst of this acquisition of artifacts, the team is attacked by natives and/or animals.  You can use words...or you can hack and slash your way through.  Decisions, decisions...

I'm not bad at chess, and i know pokemon.

So pokemon chess seemed like a fun challenge.

It is. Lost first 5 or so matches, but managed to win one, lost two more and then won three in a row.

I think i would like it more without the random critical hit and miss chance, but it is good. And it does make it feel less serious, which makes losing feel less shameful.

Every now and then, I go online for strats for RPGs and strategy games and I honestly can't tell if the advice I'm getting is worthwhile or bad or so bad it's some kind of joke, like they're messing with me or something.

"For Arena of the Gods, use Grandma and Weakling, they have a shield/ability synergy that slows down enemies by 17% and gives 5% damage reduction"

Meanwhile, I'm looking back at my Warmaster and Godkiller, who grant each other +50% crit chance, +200% crit damage, and +100% attack speed buffs.  A pretty straightforward strategy, but they mow through enemies just fine.

"I use a trinket that gives +200% damage to slowed enemies"

Ah, okay, that makes sense.  But even so, that's a very, very specific build that might work okay, but probably isn't the only viable way and he's acting like anyone who doesn't max out Grandma and Weakling is a complete fool.  Judging by the names, they didn't intuitively seem very powerful!
