Quote from: Unbeliever on February 02, 2023, 12:41:20 AMIt's amazing how many wonderful places there are in America!

Caddo Lake, on the Texas/Louisiana border, is beautiful, but it doesn't hold a candle to so many other great places America has to offer.
I can recommend Caddo Mounds as well, been looking to get up there recently but the cold is putting me off. Might watch for a pow-wow though.

We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

That's ~$308 U$D per day per person. Not unrealistic but would you be paying for services you probably won't use?

That's flights accommodation and car hire.
Plenty to see on route but seems a bit on the expensive side.
Don't forget to see Hoover Dam or The Red Canyon (near Vegas).

Nothing cheap about travel. My wife went on a cruise with her quilting friends, and it was north of $6k for 11 days. One good thing that came out of it is that she realized that she didn't want to take long cruise, say from California to Hawaii, because of the setup. The big cruise ships just have a mall in the middle; you can shop the entire time, I guess. Much as I despise flying, I'd vastly prefer that.

Well, travel can be inexpensive, if you're willing to hitchhike...

I once used a map to estimate that I've hitchhiked about 10,000 miles around the country - from East to West and North to South.

The Grand Canyon is just north of Flagstaff, AZ. The Hoover Damn isn't far down the river. Monument Valley is near by. Flagstaff is the epicenter of some great jaw droppers.

Chaco Canyon is absolutely a must for me - you might want a pickup or jeep to get out to it, because you will drive across rockier roads, but it's worth it - 5 story Native American ruins in the middle of a valley, the main encampment having over 3000 rooms and likely a temple complex at one point in history as well as massive pits (kiva) that look out of Star Wars or something. Oh... and it's all aligned on the solar/lunar axis and other astrological events that are marked by carvings and paintings on the walls.

It's a mind-changing experience about what "Native American" means.
