Yes.

Rock, my favorite genre,  basically died sometime in 2005 with a small core still active.  It's like the Byzantine Empire in the 13th century - rump state.  Or maybe a better comparison is ancient Greece versus modern Greece.  Either way, much less powerful.

Pop and especially rap took over in the 2000s, and from what I've heard (especially secondhand to my great misfortune), neither has been very healthy lately.  There's a viral clip of Snoop Dogg talking about "mumble rap" more or less taking over the genre.  That's not to say there's not occasional really influencial and memorable singers, it's just that on the whole, there seems to be a decline.  I guess that once you've hit the top, there's nowhere left to go.

Metal and electronica and other niche genres are still kicking (you cannot kill the metal), neither particularly gaining nor losing popularity as far as I can tell.

Country music has recently made big gains and won much more mainstream popularity imho, which is upsetting to me as I consider this genre to be by far the most inbred (literally and figuratively).  It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that the genre consists mainly of patriotic/rustic keywords triggering dopamine in its audience much like the Winter Soldier trigger words trigger  obedience for him.

And I dunno if it's just a function of my advanced age (older millenial) but almost every time I check out the top 40, I feel like I'm listening to someone bang on a toilet with a hot mic.  Like Hank Hill's reaction to listening to Bobbby's music.  And even when I check out just the top 10 "rock" tracks, it's 99% crap (so one decent song every ten times of checking it out, not great).  And man oh man, do they stretch the definition of rock there.  I honestly half expect to see Taylor Swift up there.

If it wasn't for the YouTube algorithm and you guys and deep digging on my part, I doubt I'd continue to find good songs at all.

Actually, I suspect rap has always been terrible.
