AI's interpretation of those two Nazi-looking Italian police officers I shared earlier. Yall shouldn't have told me about AI art, this stuff fascinates me. I think it captured the "soul" of the Nazi look quite well.

Also, just like the colors of this one...

Gwozdziec synagogue, originally in Ukraine and re-created in Poland, sometime before WW2 and the engineering that made it an almost Persian temple supported by a hanging domed roof, inside a... Buddhist/Ukrainian Slavic/Nordic hybrid exterior temple much tastefully linear in design?

This was itself a reconstruction; the original temple had been destroyed by the Russians in 1919 - it was not unique in that regard... "the" Ukraine was an incredibly tolerant region (quite strongly... relatively speaking) towards the Jews for hundreds upon hundreds of years... going back all the way to the Kievian Rus' (Slavic-Viking Ukraine) in the 900s.

There is no telling how many beautiful pieces of architecture like this across Eastern Europe, and how many artistic marvels of Europe were torn down in various pogroms or, baring that, bombed into oblivion in the 20th century... but can you imagine a world where this architecture was the norm? Instead we get the Fascist Brutalist/Capitalist-love child of modern architecture.

And now we are destroying the remaining cultural artifacts yet again, and the West is falling into it's old nationalist, anti-Semitic "blame the Jews!" anger again as the economy declines and things destabilize.

Fucking humans man, the memory of a 10-year old dead goldfish.

Well, here is a reconstruction to at least have a sense of how colorful and beautiful of experience this must have been, so that's nice.

Seriously though, the more I stare at that diagram... the more I fall in love with mathematics.

The Romans were wine-drunken children making scribbles when it comes to some of the Eastern architecture and geometric mathematical understanding these people had.

It's highly likely that those were added and added in different times, but not planned and made in one go. It's not a surprise that it's very different than the architecture a culture bent on invasion and centralisation produced. It comes from the tabernacle; a tent. Jews are originally nomads.

On the other hand, Romans are invaders and ruled over masses and masses. They've become imperial, and so have their architecture. It's imposing. It's meant to make you feel small and be subjected to. It doesn't need to be telling much in detail or prove anything other than how big it is. It's profane -as in from and to this world- and it needs to impose. Well, all architecture impose by default, because you can't naturally ignore it, but centralised army and administration carry it to huge scales. You don't build aqueducts, roads and bridges that last for thousands of years to evoke divinity, you build them to carry armies, spread and rule over.

That's a good point, I hadn't really considered that - that honestly makes it more and more romantic to me.

I have nothing to really add to this; as you said, it really is profane - though I would include it in it's verb form (to treat with disrespect) as well.

I'm saving this one for later, because it captures in one sentence what takes me 10 sentences to say.

[Profane does not have a derog. meaning there though. It just means, it is a worldly culture. As opposed to Egyptians as the classic examples goes. Which I think the point you have a beef with. LOL]
