Another product of toxic superstition in politics, evidently the assailant was a conspiracy theorist, 2020 election denier, Jan 6 insurrection fan.  I read that he kept asking Mr. Pelosi, "where's Nancy?".  He will probably become the next "patriot" poster boy of the radical right. 

Hopefully all the jail time he's getting will deter other right-wing assholes. Pfft, who am I trying to kid?

I just read an opinion piece in the online NY Times, written by Maureen Dowd, titled "The Pelosis and a Haunted America".  With Halloween being just a couple of days away, in this short piece the author succinctly juxtaposes the current toxic political environment with a time when we usually celebrate with displays of faux horror and creepiness, surmising that:

She goes on to share some of the details of the attack on Mr. Pelosi, the assailant, and the public reactions of former president Trump and Gov Youngkin of Virginia.

Those of us who share the author's horrified take on what is happening in our society probably share her feeling of dread expressed in the last sentence of the piece foreshadowing a possible and unfortunately probable Republican takeover of the Legislative Branch of the federal government:

I myself had forgotten about this, but a few years ago a Federal Judge had her son and husband shot by a man dressed as a FedEx employee at their house - a week before that, an attorney from California was shot and killed the same way.

I don't know about the attorney, but I know she had some ties to one of the investigations against... one of the corrupt Republicans/Trumps... and it was believed at the time anyways to have been specifically targeted because of that.
