I'm really sorry to hear you got it, but very glad to hear you're getting over it.

I hope you don't get the long covid, like a friend of mine seems to have. She's had months of harsh health after she got it (along with her husband, who's fine now) on a trip to New York.

Quote from: Hydra009 on September 29, 2022, 11:50:27 PMWell, it's official.  I have covid.  I'm looking at a positive covid test.  And I was going to get my second booster soon, too.

I almost immediately knew when I had it because a coworker was conspicuously coughing and so was I within an hour.

It started with the sore throat from hell and spiraled out into severe coughing and congestion.  I thought it was just a normal, albeit unusually severe headcold.

Until I tried to sleep and I woke up freezing after a couple hours.  I was shivering and teeth chattering, I had to bite my pillow to miminimize harm to my teeth and agonizingly got out of bed to fetch a comforter.  I cocooned myself and slept for about 4 hours only to wake up hot and sweaty.  I tried to get up but lapsed into unconscious several times before I could finally wake.

The past few days I've been stuck at home, mostly in my room, taking cough suppressing medicine while coughing into a mask or sneezing monstrously huge globs of mucus while my eyes water.  How on earth can I possibly produce this much mucus?  Also, sometimes my breathing switched from automatic to manual, which is not an enjoyable experience for me.  Those periods were mercifully brief, thank goodness.

Today, I've finally turned the corner.  I got normal sleep, I woke up feeling rested and alert, most of the congestion is gone, and I have a normal appetite (2 full meals today, 1 yesterday, zero the day before) I still have a lingering cough and runny nose, but it's much reduced from what it was.

My family is fine atm, so I think my instinctual hunker down approach and mask use might've spared them.  I found out pretty quick, so it stands to reason that they would too.

Also, I am never in the same floor of the house as them, so we're doing extreme social distancing.

I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't gotten my vaccine or if I went back to work or the gym like this.  Covid is no joke!
That sounds horrible.  I assume it was not the Omicron variety.

Thanks all.  My throat still hurts, but that's about it now.

Defintiely the worst "just a headcold" I've ever had. But I definitely had it better than other people.

Relatives have gotten it and reported fatigue and muscle aches that I haven't gotten, so it looks like I got a mild strain.

Dark Lightning

I hope I never get it, although I had a sore throat like you mentioned a few months ago. Good that you are getting better!

I am so sorry to hear this!  I hope your battle with covid is short and your recovery is complete.  This can happen to any of us no matter how careful one is.

I'm pretty much fine now.  Have to lay low for a few more days and then it's back to normal life.

I don't think life will ever be really "normal" again.

I just got my 3rd booster, the Omicron one, about two hours ago at Walmart.  My first four shots were Moderna, but this one was Pfizer, because it's what they had.  The pharmacist said they are equally effective, and maybe that's true, but somewhere in my mind, I think I recall reading that Moderna was slightly better, at least for the early variants.  Anyway, that's out of the way, so I'm doing all I can for now.

With covid and trump--what would be normal anyway?

Good idea.  I wish I had gotten my second booster in time.  Thought I was out of the woods, ran right into a tree.

Currently, my workplace is being ravaged by the virus for the second time this pandemic.

I'm hearing about people getting covid much more frequently now than before, although no one is getting seriously sick or hospitalized, at least not that I'm hearing about.

Hydra009

I still have lingering cough/congestion, but I'm basically a-okay now.  I just have to quarantine for a couple more days to be on the safe side.

One thing that's changed lately is that I sleep like a rock.  10-12 hours solid, compared to my normal 4 hours sleep, brief period of wakefulness, another 4 hours sleep.  I wake up feeling much better, with much more restful, dreamless sleep.  The downside is that lately I also get tired more easily and end up going to sleep earlier.

I also eat like a starving person now.  I cook whatever is in the fridge and wolf down much larger servings than normal.  I eat a much more varied diet and I eat about 1.5 times what I'd normally eat.  I'm emptying my fridge rapidly.

Nothing yet, you guys?  He heard it from a super smart friend who isn't named but is definitely 120% a real person and not someone made up to give credence to an otherwise ridiculous claim, like "people are saying", "god says", and my personal favorite, "everybody knows".

After 2020, I think we can safely put the  phrase "everybody knows" to rest.  RIP, common knowledge.  We knew ye until we didn't.

Got my booster today.
