As it stands, it seems now might be a good time to start a thread on what is going on in the Middle East; as of a few hours ago, Shno (A Kurdish city within Iranian borders) reportedly had expelled the Iranian government from the city and regained full control of the government. In other Kurdish cities, police have been firing live rounds into the crowds.

For a brief overview, I recommend this - the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (of the Peshmerga "fame") "Open Letter" to the International community. It is undoubtedly biased, but in the regards of history it is correct.

Open Letter from KDPI:s Foreign Relations Office to the International Community

QuoteOpen Letter (No.1) to international community

On September 13, 2022, a 22-year-old Kurdish girl from the city of Saqez named Jina (Mahsa) Amini, was beaten to death by the Iranian morality police in Tehran. She was accused of not wearing the Hijab properly. Unfortunately, the injuries she sustained during her short detention at the Tehran Morality Police headquarters, caused her to die three days later while in a coma. The tragic death of this innocent Kurdish girl triggered a wave of unrest and demonstrations in Eastern Kurdistan and across Iran.

In the Islamic Republic's inhumane system, Kurdish women and girls are at the intersection of both ethnic and gender inequalities and are subjugated and oppressed the most. The country's backward laws, allowing the state to interfere in an individual's most private affairs, including clothing, have legalized the crimes committed by the regime's oppressive forces against women. In response to people's legitimate demands, the regime sends its repressive forces to the streets to use lethal force, and live rounds.

The Islamic regime in Iran does not tolerate peaceful demonstrations. At the time of writing this letter (September 22, 2022) at least 20 civilians have been killed and hundreds of others are seriously injured by direct gun shots in various cities and towns of Eastern Kurdistan. Detailed information on the number of killed and wounded will be provided in our future letters.

According to preliminary reports from Eastern Kurdistan the Iranian regime has shut down the Internet in many cities and filtered various social media apps to control the online space and to prevent news reaching the world about the protests and the violence used against unarmed citizens.

We call upon the international community, government agencies, NGOs and human rights activists to raise their voices in support of Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan. This oppressive silence in international society vis a vis the plight of Kurds in Iran needs to be broken and the international community should hold the Iranian regime accountable for its crimes against its own citizens. It is imperative for the international community to realize that the path to a responsible regime in Tehran passes through resolving ethnic and gender inequalities.

Unfortunately, due to the Iranian regime cutting off all information... updates are going to be hard to come by.

Reports are that Ashnoye and Sardasht have both expelled Iranian forces and had their connections to the rest of the country severed, making at least 4 cities I've seen declaring independence and the expulsion of the Iranian regime - one city in an Azerbajani region of Iran has done the same.

Trying to follow more and more verified Iranian journalists so I can hopefully start getting some "real" news in here.

Iran Shells Kurdish Opposition Offices In North West"

QuoteERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday shelled offices of Kurdish opposition groups in Erbil's Sidakan district, accusing the Kurdish parties of inciting "chaos" in the country as demonstrations condemning the controversial death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini grow by the day.

The town of Oshnavieh, known in Kurdish as Shno, reportedly fell into the hands of protesters on Friday evening, as videos circulating on Iranian and Kurdish social media depicted thousands of young men and women marching through the city, and setting ablaze government offices, banks, and an IRGC base.

...

A statement from the IRGC said that the attack comes due to the "negligence and indifference" of "regional authorities," referring to authorities in the Kurdistan Region, "in spite of numerous reminders and warning" to prevent the establishment and activities of the anti-Iranian regime groups.

It also urged the locals of the Kurdistan Region to "stay away" from offices and locations of the Kurdish armed groups.

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leader Masoud Barzani on Monday extended his condolences to Amini's family, wishing for the "implementation of justice."

The KDPI is a Kurdish opposition party that has waged an on-and-off armed war against the Iranian government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Komala is a leftist Kurdish armed opposition party based in the Kurdistan Region and fighting for the rights of Kurds in Iran.

I'm not well informed enough to know, but when I see "militant" as the word being used by a dictator or otherwise malicious regime, something tells me the more accurate description is "freedom fighter".

Not always true, but it's "the boy who cried wolf" sort of situation.

I have not been keeping up with this at all, damn.

I wonder how the globe would have reacted to this 10-20 years ago... or maybe even 3-5 years ago, tbh. Surely this would have been global news then.

Yeah, I was thinking that same thing. Then fundamentalism, fascism, and nationalism became popular again. What can we say, the US is barely a democracy. Who's gonna lead the free world now?

Yeah, who is going to lead the free world? The only thing wrong with that question is that there is no free world to lead. Who will be the leader of.........nothing??
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent,
Is he able but not willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able or willing?
Then why call him god?

Rational people can all see clearly what the problem is,but there is next to nothing that we can do about it.

We have to wait patiently bite our lips and hope that in time the penny will drop.

It's slowly happening in Europe, the rest of the world will catch up eventually. It's a sad fact that all of us here will have to put up with this shit until we die, and also know that our children and our children's children will have to put up with it too.

Laws to protect children from brainwashing are a must to put an end to this nonsense, unfortunately the law makers are victims themselves so the chain is going to be very tricky to break...

It amazes me that decent clever people still subscribe to this shit in the year 2022.

It's only because those Arabic men can't control their lust. Any tiny bit of female skin seems to drive them crazy.
