It's chained to Ellis Island, not going anywhere.
We 'new atheists' have a reputation for being militant, but make no mistake  we didn't start this war. If you want to place blame put it on the the religious zealots who have been poisoning the minds of the  young for a long long time."

"October Country . . . that country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and mid-nights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain. . . ."
- Ray Bradbury, The October Country

"Oh, wearisome condition of humanity,
Born under one law, to another bound;
Vainly begot, and yet forbidden vanity,
Created sick, commanded to be sound."

"science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. ıt is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good." - tp

Yearning for the simple life, then being angry that a grocery store doesn't have a very specific product.

In short, cognitive dissonance.

Comments on a nature documentary about African wildlife.  So naive it's kind of funny.

I mean, we could intervene in the often-brutal circle of life, but would the end results be desirable?  Let's say we snatch a gazelle out of a crocodile's maw.  At the end of the day, the crocodile still has to eat.

P.S. - that comment thread is like a novel now.  Whenever someone disagrees with red, red tells them to stfu and reiterates their argument.  I just got to the point where red says filming nature is exploitation because we're getting entertainment out of animals (I'd argue that it's mostly educational) and giving them nothing in return.  I'm sitting here scratching my head thinking about a hyena's W2 and I swear, I'm bleeding braincells with every comment chain.
