Newspaper chief: let's put an editorial section in our newspaper so educated people can weigh in on important topics.

Newspapers now:

The study in question's results were a temporary decrease in sperm count.  And of course, there were other studies that didn't find any decrease at all.  So no, the science absolutely does not prove the conspiracy theorists right.

Besides, if they worked within the bounds of science, they wouldn't be conspiracy theorists in the first place!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.  In this case, letting anyone have a say and not only not blocking outright lying, but allowing lying that masquerades as legitmate reporting and deluded opinion masquerading as legitimate science.

As a 76 year old man, I'm not all that concerned with sperm count one way or the other--or in any way. :)))

The part that baffles me about antivaxxers is that they come up with these quasi-plausible (but untrue) downsides to vaccination like autism or lower sperm count as if that's some huge dealbreaker.  Bro, this disease's downside is DEATH.  Dead people have a sperm count of ZERO.

Even if they weren't lying about the cons, the cons are waaaay better than death or long covid or any of the other lovely fates that await people who play russian roulette with their health.

Let's say that the vaccine caused infertility.  That'd be an unintended bonus in some forced-birth red states.  Some people would pay for that peace of mind!

How'd they check the sperm count? Taste test?

Forget the usual stupidity. Oh, we wish they were right. Please, let's continue to breed like rats. What could be a better goal in life? Gods want sacrifice!

In covid news, some coworkers and friends have gotten it.  In my circle, only my immediate family have avoided it.  (We're antisocial shut-ins which normally isn't an asset, but I guess this time it is)

One friend reportedly has chills even in the unbearably hot and humid North Carolina summer.  I'm worried for her.

I'm also worried for myself.  I keep my distance from people, but admittedly, I've been kinda lax about the mask stuff lately.  I feel like I've been dodging bullets for months and sooner or later, one of them is going to land.

I heard this one on the Internet yesterday. An antivaxer posed a perplexing question to all those who recommend wearing a mask although, he had to bump a year and a half old thread to see if he could restart the conversation:

Quote"So tell me why so many more people were dying during the mask mandates?

No one had responded, as the guy is a known flake.  It was a fast moving forum, and the thread got buried again in 10 minutes.  When I got to the point where I couldn't hold my silence, I couldn't find the thread (I'm new there and don't know my way around yet).

Inverted cause and effect.  Maybe masks were mandated because of a large number of  deaths?

Yes, the correct question would be: "Why were masks mandated when there were so many deaths?"  Ordinarily, I would have said the guy was making an attempt at SNL type satire, but He's constantly got a bug up his ass about Covid and vaccinations, and when the topic comes up he loses all ability to think.  People started to ignore him, so he had to dig trough the archives to find a thread that no one had posted in for the last two years, and at the time I read it, no one had replied to him this time around, or so it would seem since the thread got buried so quickly.

Sounds like a Trumpanzee.  They get triggered when you tell them to take reasonable precautions during a deadly epidemic, but can't visit a 7/11 without bringing 7 guns.

Cases have exploded around here. And people don't care about it anymore. They just continue to go around with covid patients in their houses. I'm not going out. This winter will suck so bad from every aspect.

It is the same in my little part of the world.  Covid??? Covid??  Mask??? Mask??? It's not halloween yet, so no mask for me.

Quote from: SGOS on September 17, 2021, 07:17:29 AMOf all the 11 categories atheists stand above all others including agnostics and unaffiliated who are still among the most vaccinated categories.  White Evangelicals are at the very bottom, below all other Protestants, including Black Evangelicals who I thought would be lower due to poverty.  The impression is that the results are not caused by access.

This is reflected in my area of the Bible Belt.  My hiking partner is an evangelical, but has stopped going to church altogether because no one is masked and her minister tells everyone not to wear masks.  She brought this up to her minister before she stopped going.

But even she is in the same boat as other white Evangelicals who are at 57% vaccinated, which is higher than I would have guessed.  From the last survey I read, which included categories based on political affiliation, the category of Republican is the worst, even worse than White Evangelical.
I suppose Christians believe their God will protect them.

I got vaccinated last year and had two boosters since. And I never leave my room without wearing my mask.

The local news site I go to has removed the coronavirus tab from the top of their page. I guess people have just decided they are over worrying about it anymore.
