I wonder if the inspiration for Stray is the 3 Robots in Love, Death & Robots, lol.

I had played the original. I found it to be dumb fun. Whenever I say the title, I have to do a Sylvester Stallone impression.

Mr.Obvious

My recently married brother got a ps5 for his birthday from his spouse.

We gave him some store credit,  with a card. Gave it this message;

There once was a man of thirty-five
Who had the best birthday of his life.
He opened his gift
Felt his heart lift:
´t was a new console from his new wife.
"If we have to go down, we go down together!"
- Your mum, last night, requesting 69.

Stealth, developer of Sonic Mania, who helped work on Sonic Origins, has come out publicly to express their frustrations with Sonic Origins. According to them, the game was rushed by SEGA. Stealth was aware of some bugs that needed to be fixed, but were not allowed to submit fixes after their deadline. Of course. SEGA always has to rush out their Sonic games, way before they're finished. This time, it just HAD to be released on Sonic's anniversary.

Confusingly, Stealth has also stated that the work they turned in was not what is in the final game. In a classic case of too many cooks, Sonic Team took the work Stealth turned in, made tweaks, and introduced new bugs and issues which weren't there before. They'd like to return to the game to fix it, "under the right conditions," but that seems unlikely to happen at the moment.

Why are you like this, SEGA? Why can't you just release games when they're ready? This doesn't bode well for the next new game, Sonic Frontiers. As someone who has been a Sonic fan since childhood, who grew up with the SEGA Genesis, the fact that I'm not the least bit excited about a semi-open world Sonic game is...very sad.

Edit: Oh, also, some things I didn't realize about the game at first. It was my impression that the Classic Modes of each of the four titles were ports/emulations of the original games. Turns out, that's not the case. Bizarrely, Classic Mode actually runs on the same engine as the remakes. They just removed the wide screen and the Drop Dash, and brings back the limited lives. That's it. It's like they completely missed the point.

The thing is, Steam already had ports of Sonic 1-3, but they were delisted in preparation for Origins. So now the original versions aren't available for purchase. I mean, you could just download ROMs, but... Kinda stupid of SEGA to put fans in the position where they'd have to do that.

Giving Kingdoms of Amalur a break and checking out Days Gone

And, of course, I can't even properly operate the motorcycle because the controls are so wonky I end up going off the road ninety percent of the time.

I haven't played much games lately for...reasons...

*smash cut to a sparking desktop with a glitchy blue screen of death, a centipede crawling in and out of the I/O shield*

...but I heard that this game is a worthy successor to the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic 3, the finest strategy/tactics game ever produced after X-COM: UFO Defense.

So like Red Skull, I must guide others to a treasure that I cannot possess.  All the game mechanics look great on paper, I like the exploitable magic system, high ground bonuses, automatic attacks of opportunity (get wrecked, archers), and especially the new modular cities (you can build whatever buildings you want on a limited number of nodes, not necessarily one of each building like homm3).

So try it out, but for the love of pete, use cheap shark or some equivalent price comparison tool so you don't overpay like a necro faction newb buying skeletons with diplomacy.  Put your Estates skill to good use!

P.S. - I am 100% loyal to Rana.  Consider them the Hydra faction.

I just learned why Square Enix decided to finally remake Final Fantasy VII after so many years. It was less about technological limitations and more about a realization of their own mortality. Of the original team who worked on the original game, the youngest member is in his mid-40s. They basically realized that if they didn't remake it soon, if a remake were ever made, most of them would be either dead or retired. They preferred that the original team do it, since they are more intimately familiar with the series.

They had apparently attempted to remake the game before, but realized how monumental a task it would be to update the game to modern standards, and it got dropped. Of course, the longer they put it off, the bigger the expectations would be. So when they finally put their minds to it, they decided to put their all into it, which is how it ballooned into a multi-part series of full-length games. And also how Remake ended up not being an actual...remake.

In my opinion, their passion really shows. Everything from the new battle system to the adaptive music tracks (multiple versions of the same song being loaded at once, with which being audible in the moment being based on the context) showed an insane amount of effort, and I'm looking forward to Rebirth coming out next Winter.

Some hard-hitting gamer news:  Alan Wake 2 is a sequel to Alan Wake

Truly rigorous research went into producing this masterful thesis.

You say that, but games with "2" in the title not being direct sequels aren't that uncommon. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are both prequels, Final Fantasy 2 isn't even set in the same universe as the original (as far as I can tell).

I mean, when you put it like that, it's not uncommon for sandwiches to only have one slice of bread and for fish to breathe air and for bees to not have stingers.  But the normal expectation...

I am so friggin' hyped right now.  For the Homeworld!

So, I'm trying for Mechanicus achievements, but things aren't going so well.  If you haven't played the game, think of it like X-COM meets Terminator meets Edge of Tomorrow.  Futuristic squad-based tactical combat against nightmarish robots.

It's a true tactical game - your squad is capable of outflanking and destroying any enemy.  Of course, the same is true for your squad.  I've played plenty of missions with very methodical and efficient destruction of the enemy only for very inopportune enemy reinforcements to catch my squad off guard and utterly eviscerate them.

It's nearly 7 in the morning.

I've spent the last 6 hours playing War Thunder's tank mode, non-stop.

Oh fuck, what have I done... but my god, when you pull of a good maneuver and catch the enemy by surprise? The satisfaction...
