Elon Musk's booster landing on a pad after launch is based on, as Isaac Newton said (and I paraphrase), "Standing on the shoulders of giants". 95+% of it had already been done. I worked in aerospace for 27 years. He recruited away a lot of already-trained talent from the local companies to get where he is.

Were they being allowed to make passion projects like this, and them actually mean anything and get the public view that they do now? Or were they allowed to make much cooler shit and this is a step down for them?

I'm not completely caught up with Kenobi, but I'm pretty sure Luke is safe.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Leia is safe, too.

You have to be pretty ignorant of the Star Wars universe to pose that question.

What cooler shit? They've never made payloads, afaik (beyond a bunch of internet comsats that are jacking up the astronomy business), and there is way cooler shit, elsewhere. I'm not sure what you mean by "allowed", actually. US businesses comply with laws (hopefully, usually) so I'm not sure what Musk, et al., did that wouldn't be allowed to other companies.

I'd say Vader, Obi-Wan, and other original trilogy characters are probably safe too. lol

Speaking of... Ugh. I'm disappointed in that show.

Even without knowing anything about SW.
