Quote from: Dark Lightning on April 12, 2022, 11:07:36 PMOne of the first lessons the owner gave new employees was to do the $100 flim-flam where the customer wanted to start working the change angle. He told the kids (I was 27 when I started there, but I was a mechanic, working my way through uni towards a physics degree) to just shut the cash drawer when they started doing that, and tell them that they had their correct change. Our biggest losses came from guys simply pinching money from the till, in increments of $10. Once it started, the owner would have a memo everyone had to read and sign about not stealing money. Of course, typically an employee was planning on leaving anyway, and when they did leave, the "shortages" stopped.
I cooked in a restaurant where the dishwashers/bussers would often grab a case of steaks (or anything else they wanted) and take it out the back door along with the trash. Unfortunately retailers just have to expect internal losses if they don't have massive surveillance equipment/security. Even then, some will still get away with it. I met someone who told a story of a guy who returned a Marantz stereo box full of bricks for cash after buying it with a stolen card at a Burdines Dept. store. They literally stole it twice.

One of my sons work in retail. If it's below a dollar amount here in California, the police and the store won't prosecute. People just grab stuff and run out the door. People literally will walk in, get something off a shelf and walk over to the return desk, and they have to give that person a refund, even if they saw them take it. It's disgusting...and stupid.

Are you colour blind or did you mean something else?

It's a joke referring to red color-blindness.

In reality, I can see all the normal colors, like white, eggshell white, porcelain, white dove, and of course, ultra white.

Escher--I still love the guy's work!!

We loved playing battleship around my childhood home. I propose a toast to the Russia navy. "May they need to commission a glass-bottom inspection squadron".

It didn't sink, it was promoted to special undersea operations through tactical flooding.  All going according to plan, says Putin.

We played Battleship when I was growing up.  We started by playing the paper and pencil version first.  Only years later did we play the boxed version.

That kind of stupid really should fast for 30 days, and hopefully hasn't spawned.

I've talked to a Muslim on Discord. They have to get up in the middle of the night to binge eat and drink. During the day, they're not even allowed water. What is the fucking point?
