At this point, given that it is undeniable that Covid is actually a dud as much as apocalyptic plagues go, those who fell for the hysteria at the first are now doubling down.

It is hard to accept that you damaged your kids for nothing.  It's hard to accept that you stole their prom, their kindergarten graduation, their little league championship, and their chance for an athletic scholarship for nothing.  It HAS to be a deadly disease, because if it is not, it means those who advocated extreme measures were wrong, and being wrong cost their children dearly.  So instead of waking up and saying "hey I was wrong" and trying to fix the mess they made, they're going to double down.  Because acknowledging the damage they did is far too painful.

"But we were just trying to do something," won't cut it.  That is saying "It doesn't matter how many people died of other causes, as long as it saved one life from Covid."  That is not a balanced equation, and you won't be forgiven.  So rather than face consequences, they double down and insist that Covid is more than it really is.

The leaders, on the other hand, don't have such qualms.  When this is all over, they magically become Good Germans who never actually supported any of the extreme measures.  Oh no, that was always someone else.  The leadership that advocated the most extreme measures should realistically be put on trial in a way not seen since Nuremberg, but that's not likely to happen.
Wow, Jason, you really are brain damaged.  I feel bad for you--and I'll pray for your recovery--or were you born this way??  I'll pray anyway.

I vote not so much brain damaged as just a little bit confused about vaccines and the learning process of medical science during a novel pandemic.

!Remind me 2 years

Also, double-dog dare you to tour an ICU right now and see firsthand if your idea of "hysteria" (aka caution) is based in reality.

I wonder if in your damaged thinking, it's possible for something to be pretty bad without being apocalyptic.  As far as calamities go, this is pretty bad.  Closing in on a million dead in the US, #3 cause of death after heart disease and cancer, the same death toll as 9/11 every 1-2 days, etc.  And yet the dum-dums (who seem to have a certain ideological leaning) still can't figure out basic precautions like mask-wearing or vaccination or quarantine.

Spoiled for size:

Covid is no AIDS crisis or Black Plague, but it's way deadlier than SARS or Swine Flu[/spoiler]

A "dud" according to the brilliant minds in our midst.

Omicron less of a problem in heavily-vaxxed Vermont

QuoteOf all the states, Vermont appeared best prepared for the omicron battle: It is the nation’s most vaccinated state against COVID-19, with nearly 80% of residents fully vaccinated â€" and 95% of residents age 65 and up, the age group considered most vulnerable to serious risk of COVID.

QuoteAlthough nearly universal vaccination could not keep the highly mutated omicron variant from sweeping through the state, Vermont’s collective measures do appear to be protecting residents from the worst of the contagion’s damage. Vermont’s COVID-related hospitalization rates, while higher than last winter’s peak, still rank last in the nation. And overall death rates also rank comparatively low.
#1 in vaccinations, #50 in death rates.  Hmm...maybe there's some sort of connection?

QuoteReplicating Vermont’s success may prove difficult.

“There is a New England small-town dynamic,” said Dr. Tim Lahey, director of clinical ethics at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. “It’s easy to imagine how your behavior impacts your neighbor and an expectation that we take care of each other.”
And here's the crux of the vaccine debate: whether or not you have a duty towards your fellows.  Essentially, this pandemic is a pop quiz on empathy and a lot of people failed.

No, I really do believe that the Covid fails to achieve the apocalyptic plague that people are still trying to say it is.

Moreover, they are doubling down on saying it is an apocalyptic plague because admitting you were wrong it difficult for many reasons, one of them being guilt.

You are totally wrong.  What is so awful about wearing a mask and getting a shot????  That is about as easy as a seat belt or driving on the correct side of the road--or getting a drivers license, or a library card--or.................What you are displaying is a lack of care for your fellow community dweller and it seems you like to flout your selfishness.  If any needs to feel guilt, it is you.  But then conservatives are not know for kindness or care or love of fellow man--I see you are, indeed, a conservative.

ORLY?  Hyperbolic/mischaracterize much?

Something you seem to know a lot about.

Covid is not an apocalyptic plague. I've never heard anyone call it that, and it is not a common consensus.  It's just a handy straw man fallacy because it better fits Jason's narrative that liberals are extremists. This is not to say Covid is not a serious pandemic. When Intensive Care Units fill to capacity and millions die, it is a serious virus, and quite exceptionally so. Whether you give a shit about it or not is everyone's own prerogative.  If mandates are put into place, Jason will be in a better position to whine about losing his rights.

Stupidity, bad judgement, ignorance...etc. I don't know. As far as I see, a very large group of people expect something like in the movies when somebody says 'global pandemic'. This is not just about covid either. It's not about watching specific movies, I mean. Grand theme events that sweeps everything around in short time. Some epic narrative they live in, see it coming and understand. ? Seriously, a state of mind I will never get.  If that doesn't happen in a certain way, it doesn't exist or it is not that thing as defined.

Yep.  That's pretty much it.  Unrealistic, movie-like expectations.

When they hear the word epidemic, they assume it's like in the movies, where people are very visibly sick and tons of people drop dead on the sidewalk.  In real life, it's not very noticeable, only a small percentage die, and the dying are largely hidden from view in ICUs.  So it's very easy to make the entirely incorrect assumption that nothing is wrong because one can't see anything wrong firsthand

Similar deal with global warming and really a ton of stuff.  Are people really so stupid as to think that their TV is an accurate depiction of reality?!

Refusing to believe in something that exists is as much good a defense mechanism as believing something that doesn't exist. However, I really don't get the confidence part.
