I dunno. When the best use for it is to buy stuff illegally, that doesn't sell me on the concept.

Ideally the government would decriminalize all items that don't harm (consenting) adults and then I would think crypto would lose probably 65% of its use. Until that happens though it's pretty much the only option for online purchasing of illicit goods.

If it wasn't for the environmental impact and the impact on electronic prices, I honestly would have no problem with it; people should be able to trade whatever they want for whatever they want. If a bunch of people want to group up and decide a line of code is worth $50, awesome... that's not any different than the currency we use today, it's all imaginary.

But if that $50 of code means we have to destroy the planet, no thanks.

I would like to think so, but banks like J. P. Morgan and businessmen like Mark Cuban have started to get involved in crypto as well... so it looks like it might be here to stay. Time will tell.

While i'm not huge on it in general, it does have some legitimate uses as a gray market/black market currency, so I respect that. Anything that can be used to subvert government attention and taxation has some merit in my opinion.

Why is it a good thing if people have another option to commit tax evasion?

Because taxation is theft by its very definition; "Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanently.".

The only reason they collect it is because they have the biggest guns around and no one is going to mess with them. Sure, they give us little pieces to keep us pacified, but it's only to watch out for themselves. At the end of the day, they don't want people knowing that their lives would probably be better off without them and they sure as hell don't want to lose that cash cow or their life.

It is what it is, it's not going to change anytime soon. Unless humanity is wiped out save for the bare minimum of required survivors and culture has to start anew, that's just who we are. But if you can find a way to get around that, without technically breaking any laws in doing so, then more fucking power to you.

No it isn't. It's more like rent. Unless you'd prefer the poop stay in your house instead of flowing out down a pipe. Someone has to pay for all that, ya know.

I found this video informative, but it is dense. NFT's are a scam because they are built on cryptocurrency, which is also a scam. I hope they all lose their money and wind up giving blowjobs for pennies under and overpass. But that won't happen. The video makes some parallels to the 2007 housing bubble and that means a few individuals will get obscenely wealthy and the rest of us will have to pay for the damage they did to the economy.

That was fascinating and educational. Thanks for sharing. I liked how NFTs and cryptocurrencies are described as a "bigger fool scam"-- buying worthless assets believing that later they can be sold to a bigger fool.

It literally (not metaphorically "literally") is theft -  "Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanently."

If I steal $100 from you and buy you a $1 pack of gum is it no longer theft because I provided a service to you?

Makes me think that the friend who was trying to get you into this wasn't your friend. He was trying to get you to invest so he could cash out and leave you holding worthless assets, which is what they are.

I've come to the conclusion that both crypto and NFTs are just OnlyFans for bros.

My friend is on Twitter, hears all the hype, and he was asking me if he should get into NFTs or crypto because I'm into technology. He knows I'm not interested in money-making ventures. My advice was these things are essentially gambling-- only spend as much as you are prepared to lose.

The problem with that is that belief in a flat Earth has nothing to do with the shape of the Earth.
